Ebay fees

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to vent. I was cleaning out some old tools when I moved from my old shop to my new one so I decided to list a bunch of tools on ebay that I no longer used. I did not over charge shipping and did not tack on additional fees that some do but I may change that thinking after what I cleared.

All the tools that I sold brought 237.70 on ebay.

The ebay fees were 23.35

the paypal fees were 10.85

shipping cost me 50.40

Which left me with a profit of 139.28

If my math is right they took 62% and I got to keep 38%.

Does anyone see why I should not be upset.

I always pass up autions that have a higher rate than I think normal on Shipping or ones that charge a handling fee or processing fee but maybe I need to rethink what I am doing, if I decide to use ebay ever again to sell anything. But you get to reach so many potential buyer.

Thanks for letting me vent.....

Randy

Randy, I agree with you, and think you should vote with your dollars. Don't give any to eBay.

Now that said, my husband and I have been joking for years about "bringing Walmart to it's corporate knees" which of course we have *not* done by not shopping there. But on the other hand, we can sleep peacefully at night and there is a lot to be said for that. It's too bad that there are so many other people who will shop there, but that is their freedom and choice. I would never take it away from them. However if *enough* people stop using eBay, "they" (meaning the people who run eBay) will probably get the message and stop the insanity. I think what is happening now is they are bowing to pressure from very wealthy merchants who sell tons of stuff on eBay, and not the normal person who is selling one or two or 20 items. The higher fees may not bother someone selling hundreds if not thousands of items on eBay, but certainly WILL hurt someone selling only a few items.

Hi Randy,

I feel your pain and agree with thoughts about Febay. I have started to first offer what I have here on LW, it works real well and (I hope) everyone is happy:-)

Randy, I'm right there with you on feelings towards Ebay & PayPal Fees. As far as shipping goes I get as close to flat rate as possible and that is paid by the buyer and that is listed up front as I prep/box items before hand. A kitchen scale goes a long way ;)
