  1. Hello! I am looking for someone with a clicker to do a small project for me in the Columbus Ohio area. I have several hides and partial hides of 10 oz or so bridle type leather and one die about 4" X 5" ish. I need it clicked out sometime in the next month or so. I don't feel like shipping it all somewhere, so I'm looking for someone in the area who can do the clicking. Willing to travel a reasonable distance outside of the Columbus, Ohio area. Anyone fit this description? Email me at: info@branchlineleather.com or reply to this thread if you are interested. Thanks!
  2. OK- I have a customer who wants me to cut and sew up simple journal shells that he will emboss. No idea how he is doing the embossing but he says he has the equipment, so I will figure that part out later. Is anyone aware of a pre-finished leather in several colors that will take an emboss? Not interested in using veg tan and finishing after the fact. The designs he will be embossing are fairly complex and seem to cover the entire outside of the book. I see these things around and don't realy know how to find this leather. Here's a good example. They are usually softer than a veg tan and I've seen colors like green and red. Any thoughts?
  3. Just bouncing ideas here. A potential customer called today with a request for some leather, sand-filled paperweights, cut into a specific shape, embossed with their art. In a maroon color. Of course, they want to resell it for $20 and can't go a dime more. They are willing to purchase and "own" the die and embossing plate. 75 at a time, need by Sept 1st. This is really not my area, but I am researching nonetheless since this is a potential good future customer. I have no way to die cut or emboss, so these parts of the project would have to be farmed out. I can sew them together, but worried that the sand will fall out between the stitching and that the shape would be too complex to stitch well. 1) Can anyone advise on an embossable leather that does not need to be finished after the emboss? In a maroon or neutral brown color? 2) Where would you go to get both the die and the plate made and also have the clicking done at the same time? Any one-stop shops like that? 3) Would you tell this person it can't be done? I am heading there. Fast!
  4. HI all- New to the forum but not to leatherwork. Just picked up an old Consew 226, so I could work at home instead of hauling myself 40 minutes to my rural shop. Here's the thing. I used to sew on one of these 20 years ago and am now remembering that it often dropped "corner" stitches, you know the ones where you turn the work 90 degrees and it does not pick up the bobbin thread in the corner. I've been sewing on a Consew 206 and don't have this problem. But this old 226 is dropping corner stitches! It's like a bad flashback! Any thoughts? Wrong needle? Using a 125 for leather with 69 thread top and bottom. Am I turning the work too soon? Too late? This is a maddening problem and I have a pile of work I need to get done. Help? Thanks!
