New Stitching Pony

Recommended Posts

My husband made me a really nice stitching pony out of Mahogany and curly maple. I'm really excited to start using it!

Also, I threw together an experimental bracelet with stitching to hold on a carving I did a while ago. If anyone has any suggestions or online resources for decorative stitching, that would be awesome. It looks rather haphazard, as is.

(Apologies for the sloppy hole placements - I was lazy because it's for myself, as I can't sell mammoth ivory online anymore due to etsy and ebay's new policies.)

Nice work and wood......You'll get tired of that screw very soon. You might want to consider having the hubby cut off the excess.

Monica, I used a carriage bolt with a wing nut.

The carriage bolt head is flush with the wood so the thread doesn't get caught on it and the side with the wing nut has a leather flap over it.

The leather is screwed into the wood over the wing nut and I use a 24 snap on the other end.

Tighten the wing nut down and then snap the flap over it.

Your thread will get caught on those knobs and long rod as King's X mentioned.

It looks well made and will last for years, it just needs a couple of tweaks.

I like the large knob and you might be able to cover it but as is will cause you grief.

Thanks for the advice! I dare say next time I tried to use it with a large project and lots of string, I would have been very annoyed. I appreciate it!

Your hubby is quite the woodworker!

Maple base and mahogany body, that is a Lipizzan Stallion Pony

Thanks! If you think that's good, you should see his mandolins.

I find myself carried away by the same airstream as WScott!

You are quite an artistic couple, like Pablo Picasso & Francoise Gilot or Charles & Alexandra Eames.

(For the purpose of sounding erudite I've looked up famous couples on the net ;))

LOL, if only. I've been casting about, trying to keep up with him ever since I met him. I can play the piano better than he can, anyway. One must count one's blessings. ;)
