FINEST ENGLISH LEATHER WORKING TOOLS

Recommended Posts

Welcome to Leatherworker.net! It's fantastic to have a supplier from the east end of the pond on here. I'm sure you either have, or will soon, hear from some of our UK members. Be sure to drop a message to Johanna so you can get listed in the suppliers list.Other than your link to your website, can you give us an idea of what, as a supplier, you can offer leatherworkers?

Hi Chris and welcome to Leatherworker.net, great to have a representative of you company here.

Joseph Dixon Tool Co Limited is a family owned and run business,

Manufacturing the finest English leather working tools and Saddlers toolssince 1843 and has the larges range of tooling in the world they are all madein house in Walsall which is the leather capital of theworld and steeped in history. We take great pride in our product quality andservice.

This I can attest to. Most of my tools are Joseph Dixon (some Thomas). They lasted the entire working life of a Saddler and Harness Maker who started somewhere around 1900 - 05 and they will outlast me. A lot gets mentioned about modern anything not being as good a quality as the old but even the odd Dixon tool I have had to replace over the years due to my stupidity will outlast me and more than likely the next guy.

You know you live in saddlery mecca when the local football team in called the Saddlers.

P.S. can you give us a brief history lesson on the Dixon company. I'm mainly interested in the Thomas Dixon timeline.

My most valuable tools are also Joseph Dixons. The round knife sings like a soprano when you strike it! The sewing awl stays supersharp. The plowgauge gives you confidence when you hold it in your hand. The stitching clam has done many interesting demonstrations.

And the old gentleman who taught me to handsew (in South Africa), sold them to me for next to nothing ... - they were his duplicates.

Hi Chris!

We have a pretty big UK following and quite a few members from Europe, Australia, Canada, Asia and everywhere in between. If you are looking to increase your global presence, we've got the folks. Many of our members are professionals who don't mind spending a bit more for a better quality tool.

Let us know if we can be of assistance getting your corporate name out there.

I would like to know as well so, I just sent an email to Chris this evening referencing his post here.

Hopefully Chris is still with Dixon and will favor us with an update and let us know if they may or not have any further intention of a U.S. based agent / distributor / retail venue.

I thought I might add a footnote, I received this week 4 Dixon pricking irons from Ken at Booth & Co. I have to say that the customer service is excellent, the irons are in perfect condition, level, even teeth, and all of them quite sharp. Overall polish and finish is very good and the cost was very reasonable.

Received my irons within 3 days of placing the order from the east coast out to here to the west coast! That's pretty quick and I'm extremely pleased with the service and the irons.

Hi Macca,

I went with #'s 7,8,9,10. Frankly speaking, I'm extremely pleased with them. fit and finish is excellent and look forward to using them for a very long time.

Since I use irons in the same manner as you have pointed out numerous times in other threads and store tools well, I don't anticipate ever having any issues with them unless I do something very dumb. The tip about Booth & Co in this thread is much appreciated also, great experience and no long waits or customs delays getting Dixon tools on this side of the pond.

I want to thank you again for your efforts and time posting the very informative information in the other thread, it closed the deal and I couldn't be any happier.

Best,

N.A.T.

Always had good service from these guys, pricking irons are good, I have a few Dixon tools, some are quite old, and well used. A good sign!

To my knowledge Dixon went under not too long ago.

I'm very interested what will happen to the company and their stock.
