Stiching Pony

Recommended Posts

Vintage Stitching pony from the Dan-D Knife and leather shop in Del Norte, Colorado. I remember him using this when I was a kid and it's the one I learned to stitch on. We don't have room or the need for another one. I also don't have the time to rufurbish it. Make me a reasonalble offer. It works as is and would make a great project to clean up and refinish.

Jphn,

Do you know anything about the history of the stitching pony. I swear I have got its twin a friend of mine gave me. They look identical down to the metal teetch. Mine has no covering on the seat, and you can see where is was scooped out with ??? My friend guessed it was over a 100 years old.

Just curious,

Terry

Hi Terry,

I am going to take a closer look at this one this weekend. I want to see if there are any markings under it. I did notice that the jaws will come off easily. There are a couple of wedges under the seat holding the jaws in place. I would really like to find out more about it. If its that old maybe I should re think selling it and refinish it one day. Do you have pictures of yours? Have a good one!

I'm in need of a stitching pony. What would be involved with refurbishing this one? Sorry, but I'm VERY new to this and know much of nothing.

Well first of all thank you and God Bless you as well, Ray. This one is ok to use as it is right now Ray. What I meant by refurbish was to take it apart, clean, sand and refinish it. Maybe replace the leather strap at the same time. A couple of weekends and this would be a nice showpiece as well as a wonderful tool to have. Contact me at jddennehy@yahoo.com to negotiate a price if you are interested.
