Help Thread tension

Recommended Posts

When sewing leather or cloth about 80-90% of the stitches are either High or low about equal the rest look ok.

Thickness doesn't seem to make much difference.

Checked thread path not binding, changed needles, changed thread size and needle, fast or slow.

Adjusted needle and hook no help.

What could be causing this mess.

About to fix with 10lb. hammer.

I would be thankful of any ideas or suggestions

Thank you in advance

i have had a simillar problem , and to fix it on one machine i polished both of the tennsion discs and on the other machine i bought new discs. that solved it for me.

it could be some rust in there or groves that could have been worn in the metal.

hope this helps for you..

Thanks for this tip, Luke. I'll have a look at my machine's discs, as well.

Hi guys, normally, if the tension is inconsistent, it is caused by the bobbin tension. Tighten the bobbin tension 1/4 of a turn, (never more than a 1/4 turn, no matter what), which will pull the top thread to the bottom of the leather, then tighten the top tension one full turn. If your machine has two tension assemblies, then tighten both tensions one full turn. If this does not work, call me at 1-866-962-9880 and I will go over a few other things with you. Steve

P.S. Elliot, a 10 pound hammer won't work as well as dropping it out of a third story window!

Checked the tension disks they are ok, not enough thread run through to wear.

It looks to be a bad spring on the bobbin case.

Would not put pressure on 69 thread.

Will get a new case.

Where can I get a US made one for a Artisan 618?

I gave the spring a bend and got more pressure.

Still getting the high and low stitches in 4in straight runs.

And with a 10 lb hammer you get more frustrations worked out.
