Hi Everyone,

Here I am once again seeking your council. A problem has just come up with the dye on one of my holsters rubbing off. I dont think it is affecting the look of the holster but I dont want dye staining my customers and friends clothing. Please tell me what I am doing wrong in the dye process or what I can do to fix this very troublesome problem. Thank you very much.

John.

A LOT OF QUESTIONS .....WILL GET YOU AMSWERS

1. I use fiebling's leather dye I think its alcohol based. (mahogany)

2. 6 to 7 ounce single shoulders

3. No, I have not been buffing until no dye rubs off, I rub in dye twice to get good coverage.

4. I use fiebings acylic resolene.

Thanks for your help, I will be happy to answer any other questions in order to fix this problem. I apologize in advance if I am doing something or not doing something to cause my own problem. I am absolutely still learning so much.

John.

Just my experience but Im not very experienced lol.

The feibings dye which is what I use also in full strength will take neer forever to get to stop rubbing off. I am not sure if you delute them or not but I delute mine about 50/50 with denatured alcohol (grab it at lowes or home depot cheap). I will do usually a couple of coats then let it completely dry. Then I buff it for a while. Then I oil it and then let it sit overnight to absorb the oil and dry. Most recommend 24hrs for the oil to set in so I try to hold to that but not allways.

Once that is done I buff it some more. Then depending on where I am at with my project Ill go ahead and seal it with what ever you plan on sealing with. I personally for my projects generally use either leather balm with atom wax or tan coat.

I usually do a couple of layers and LET IT DRY between layers. And not to thick either on the sealer or it doesnt work right.

Once that is done I usually do a thin layer of aussie wax or snoseal. Thats depends on the project though and is just my own thing,
