Hi!

This is a wallet I made. I have tried gilding before but it has alwayes turned out to glossy. But this time I applied som antique on the gilded areas and I think it turned out nice.

Looks great! I accidentally discovered how to make a nice copper color using metallic gold acrylic and go over that with Eco Flo Deep Violet dye.

It looks great! Can you tell me if the gold cracks if the leather is bent? I tried some gold leaf guilding and it was cracking easily as the leather flexed. What did you use as a top coat or sealer? Thanks.

Gold Textile paint works good and flexes, but you have to heat it up with a heat gun or iron ...

I used gold leaf(brass) and not paint. And yes, it will crack a little bit when it's being used, but not so much I think. Below are the steps I used to prevent it from cracking and oxidizing (since I used brass and not gold it will oxidize) aswell as giving it an antique look.

1. Applied the brass

2. Waited 48 hours and then applied something here in Sweden called "Zaponlack", it's used to prevent metals from oxidizing. I guess almost any top coat that prevents metals from oxidizing will do. But I have noticed that if you apply this before 48 hours the top coat itself will crack the gold.

3. Waited 1 hour for the "Zaponlack" to dry completely and thenapplied antique

4. And finally i used super sheen to seal the antique.

Kind regards

Tommy
