Hi, I"m very new to this, I'm wondering how do I know what type of leather to buy to make different items? Some of the things I want to make are primarily horse tack, but also belts, wallets, and purses eventually. How do I know what type of leather to get for the different things I want to make?

Thanks for you help, but wow, maybe I wont be making any tack with this, its ridiculously expensive.

I have been looking online and can't find where I can purchase zebra or cow hides or faux zebra and cow hides to use in making horse tack. The only thing I have been able to find is finished hides that are supposed to be used for wall hangings or whatever, and I'm sure is much more expensive. I can't find it that is designed to be cut up and used for other things. I'm fairly new to this though so maybe that is part of the problem. Can anyone tell me where to get this? I've added some links to some tack that will give you an example of what I'm looking for.
