Basketweave Border

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if there is a book of patterns for these of if you dram your own? If drawn how do I do that? see pics for example. I'm refering to the border that serves as a break between the floral pattern and the basketweave. in the second pic it is another piece that is sewn on.

You mean the braid between the floral and the basket weave? I think that is a stamp, I've seen one before but I don't recall the maker and the one I saw was quite a bit larger.

Ah.. I the stamp I saw was a Hackbarth stamp.

Oh! I see what you mean. You mean the Yoke style in the design. The one with the sewing looks to me as if they took a piece of card stock, folded it in half and cut out a design... then when it was opened, they had a piece to trace. Not sure how they would do the other unless it was drawn freehand.

Well, at least you have the source for the stamp if you ever need it. :)

Ones that are close from tandy are d434, D606,D607

The braid on the inside is a stamp as well, but not a tandy product. I am not sure who makes that one.

Here is the other real one you are looking for.

http://hackbarthtools.com/1018-steel/hackbarth-steel-leather-tool-large-7-seed-border-stamp.html not the one sylvia listed:) 1/2 the price:) Sorry Sly, I think you just posted the wrong link:)

I have a swivel knife blade that cuts two lines at the same time. The example sure looks like what my tool will do.

Hey Chancy:

I think what the original poster really wanted to know was whether or not the large scalloped "yoke" for lack of better words was designed. Whether it was drawn or a template was used or what. The second photo shows a better example. I use the term yoke because that is what the pattern piece would be called if it were a western shirt. Good call on the stamp though. I didn't bother looking for the second stamp when I realized the "real" question posed.

:)

I've never seen a template or kit like that for what appears to be a bible. I assume it was made to fit a specific book size so probably hand drawn.

In the first picture it looks like they're Barry King tools. The 5 seed cam, a braid border and the celtic basket weave.

The second image is all a waffle pattern maybe King or possibly the geometric from crafttool with what appears to be a craftool border stamp. Cant tell for sure. Not clear enough.

Doesn't look too complicated. A french curve and some time and you could probably knock out an adequate replica in a few minutes. leave room for the width of the book plus about 2-3 inches on either side to accommodate the stamping and the curves.
