  1. Well that's cool...somehow I missed that. I went and checked that mechanism, and it doesn't seem to have the same action as the ones I'm seeing, but I am just starting to understand the difference today. I guess either way I'm going to be hand stitching for a long time...cause those are way out of my price range. Bummer. 8-/ Thanks for the info!
  2. While out and about today, I came across a nice Singer 111w152 at an estate sale. I scored the whole setup for $20 (I just had to try at that price) - Motor, machine, table, everything. Anyhow, now that I'm back home and reading the great thread (no pun intended) by Wizcrafts, I'm wondering if anything can be done to turn this into a good stitching machine. Here's what I'm looking to do...I'm looking for a reasonably thick gauge of thread to match my usual hand saddle stitching... but I don't need a lot of layers or particularly thick leather...generally I'm just adding an edging, since the cases I make have right angles that have to be hand stitched. I generally make small cases and things like that. Nothing insane. Would a walking foot attachment help me out here? Any suggestions for a gauge that comes close to the T*ndy stuff? I'm not using the artificial sinew or anything, and I don't think it's the braided cord. Thanks a LOT for any thoughts or ideas here!
  3. I found a nice sampler of Ultra Suede on eBay today that will definitely prove this out. I'm excited, I like the feel of that stuff. Used to have a couch made of it. 8-)
  4. Great idea! That stuff is nice and soft. Seems like an upgrade even.
  5. Thanks everybody...this is all good stuff! I had never thought of pool table felt or new suede. Any thoughts on a preferred adhesive? The contact cement I have is not cutting it in my tests. thanks again!
  6. Hi All- First post here. I've been lurking around for a good year or so, but I need some advice. TONS of great info here...the best. Anyway, I am working on some camera cases and I want to learn a nice method for adding a felt-ish interior like the good old school cases. If you go to the 40 second mark of this video (although it's neat to watch the process all the way through) you can see JnK applying an adhesive and then an interior fabric, which is what I'm trying to figure out. It looks like a felt, but the felt you find at craft stores is so thick and bulky and cheap feeling. Anyone have any idea as to what this stuff is? Any thoughts on the proper adhesive would be handy too. I've attached a sample...although I wouldn't do purple if you paid me...YIKES. Thanks ahead of time for any ideas.
  7. Thanks Terra...I appreciate that. Already learned some good stuff.
