Directional Snaps

7 posts in this topic

Who is using directional snaps (like these pull the dot - http://www.dotfastenersdirect.com/catalog.html) for their holsters?

Any recommended places to get directional snaps?

Anybody sell them that come as a package w/cap, socket & stud?

Does it require a special tool other than the normal anvil set up for line 24 snaps?

As always...Thanks!

They may need a special die punch.

Directionals aren't a necessity. But they are nice to use an offer that extra bit of security to the attachment point. Don't feel like you HAVE to use them but if you do, good stuff :)

I use Line 24s and DOT fasteners (Hard snap). Haven't gotten into using directionals yet. I do use holsters that have directional snaps on them.

- The best place I have found is the website you have already shown.

- You will have to buy the pieces separately. Of you are using them in belt loops, you can get away with the shorter .240 posts. Be sure to get the longer ones if you plan to go through more than one layer of leather. Also, you can use normal caps that don't say "Pull the Dot" if you prefer the plain look (which is my personal preference).

- You can get a Pres-N-Snap Installation Tool for a more economical way to install your snaps, but you will also have to buy dies made specifically for directional snaps. The dies that work with this model don't put a dot in the cap like a professional snap press will, so this is one more reason to use standard caps instead of the Pull the Dot variety.

Zack White sells the four parts together as a set. You can buy them in single sets or by the dozen. I have just received my dozen and the anvil and setter seems to work just fine. Here is the link:

Is there a better regular line 24 snap than a Tandy brand?

I would highly recommend the DOT line 24 snaps. Tandy's are probably made in China anyway. . .

Some DOT brand snaps are also available from Perfect Fit.

This is where I get my fasteners. They carry just about everything I use.
