newbee here let me have it!!

Recommended Posts

I have been at this for a few weeks. I started just wetting with a sponge and then found out about casing so I have been giving that a try. Feel free to critique my work. I can use all the help I can get. Thanks. I will post pics in order of progression. There is a bunch of leather in between that are just practice strokes and stuff that i wont waste the space to show.

Here are the first two I did. The newest one was a cased piece the other was just sponge wet. They are dated.

This one i did today its my 3rd. It is my family crest. Wish I had lettering but its just a practice piece but I can see this one on a holster in the future.

Nice job! Wish I had the skill. Wish I had the patience. Wish I had a family Crest!

Looks like you've come a long way in a few weeks.

There's nothing to let you have!  Screw up better and I'll give a bigger critique. ;)  Well ok, how about getting some sort of texture on the background of the family crest to make it stand out even more?  Great work, especially for only having been at it for such a short time.

Nice job, looks great! What kind of leather are you using there! What weight? To get good tooling you need good leather, seems to me you are using some maybe 4 oz leather? Try some 6 or 8 oz, makes a big difference. Nice job on the swivel knife cuts.

Thanks alpha, I have other things I have to get before I can make anything I can use so for now I will be practicing from my Stolhman books I have received.

Thanks Bigfoot!! I guess I'm not sure. It was off a double shoulder that I got from Tandy when I went down there and I had asked for a practice piece.

That Tandy stuff is great to practice with, but when you get serious buy a little Herman Oak or Wicket and Craig. Some places sell small square pieces just to try and see what you are missing.
