Rolled Handles/Corded Handles Question regarding Twisting...

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

I'm working on a couple of handles for a bag I've nearly finished, I'm making them rolled around a section of 1/2" (12mm) cording with a butt join rather than a flesh to flesh join.  I've been having some trouble with the handle wanting to twist on me, and so far I'm stumped on how to correct this.  I've tried out baseball stitch, running stitch, some sort of H stitch that I kind of found by mistake, but so far the twist still wants to appear.  Is this just something that happens with rolled handles or is there something I can do about it?  The handles are long, around 22" (55cm), maybe it's just a length thing?

Thanks in advance

When the handles are fixed to the bag, will that, maybe, hold them straight?

Maybe applying some moisture and drying the handles whilst they're held in the correct orientation will help.

Good luck, and please don't forget the pics when you get things fitted together ... or before.

It would I guess, I made a similar pair for the same bag I'm working on right now but with a flesh to flesh seam and whilst the twist wasn't too bad it did have some, and once fixed it was held in place.  I was just wondering if maybe the twist could be avoided in the first place.  I'll be sure to post some pictures once the bag is finished!
