Listing Information Help

This page contains information about what to fill into each of the listing information boxes when creating a listing.

Title

The title is the main heading of your listing and is the first thing shoppers will see of your listing.  You can make this the name of your business, or the product you specialize in.

Friendly URL

When you create a listing, a new page is created for the listing.  What goes in this box is the name of that page.

For most people, this information is filled in automatically, but in some cases, due to differences in browser settings, that doesn't happen.  If it doesn't fill in automatically, just type the listing title, in all small letters, with dashes between words.  For example, if the listing title is "Custom Saddles & Tack", for the Friendly URL, type "custom-saddles-tack".

Note: If you have more than one listing with the same title, follow it with a "-1" or something to give each listing a different URL.

Categories

If you are creating a Feature or Banner listing, this determines what additional categories your listing will appear in, besides the Primary Classification you chose for the listing.  Feature listings can have up to 3 categories, and a Banner listing can have up to 5.

Description

What you type here appears on your listing page and is what people will read to find out about whatever you're offering for sale.

Keywords

Keywords are search terms that people use in the search box to search the Directory for what they are looking for.  Each listing can include a certain number of keywords.  If the keywords typed in the search box match keywords in your listing, your listing will appear in the search results.

Meta Description

A meta description is a description of the content of your listing page.  This is what search engines, such as Google, will use to index the content on your listing page, and if someone does a Google search on words that are included in your meta description, your listing is more likely to appear in the Google search results.

In general, we recommend just copying whatever you put in your listing description into the meta description.

Meta Keywords

Like the meta description, the meta keywords are used by search engines to index your listing page.  These are just like your listing keywords, only instead of affecting the results of a search done in the Directory, they will affect the results of searches done on Googgle, Yahoo, and other search engines.

In general, we recommend copying your listing keywords into the meta keyword box.
