  1. Dome & brim are constructed from 2 laminated layers of 4oz veggie tanned leather. The yellow center ridge & side tabs are an additional layer of 4oz veggie tanned. Overall material thickness ranges between 8mm & 12mm. cowling is light weight suede. Hood use recommended. Cowling drapes 7" on the sides, 10.5" at the back. Mask is a cut down standard 3 weapon mask. This item is for sale if you're interested. http://corviileather.uphero.com/
  2. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I used an ammonia hardening technique I learned from the local tandy guy. 1 part *NON SUDDZING*ammonia to 6 parts warm water. the longer/more times you soak the harder (and more brittle) it gets. Very little shrinkage and doesn't get soft in warm weather. Two 2 piece domes, laminated, one inside the other, no structural metal. The aventail, shikoro in Japanese, is tied very tight in the pictures, I left the laces long so the owner could adjust it to his preferences. Looked at your website. Very nice work, you have inspired me Sir, thank you. Here's a link to mine, such as it is~ http://corviileather.uphero.com/ I play mostly in the SCA, but intend on looking into the local RF here in CO. I think the SCA may be a viable market for you. I've been to a few good sized events in your area. http://www.sca.org/ Thanks again
  3. I tend to make and use up the patterns as I go. I do have the main dome pieces still but they're to big to scan.
  4. Thanks for the compliment. The neck armor(shikoro) was based on photo's of this style helmet. In retrospect, I think I should have constructed the shikoro differently. The bottom lame should hang lower and fan out more. Thanks again, Corvus
  5. This is my 3rd leather SCA fencing helm
  6. this is the same helmet with a cut down fencing mask attached. It is used for SCA rapier fighting. Corvus

  8. I'd thought about it but chose not to. That's the only part that is not hardened. The flexibility makes it easier to take on and off since the fencing mask was added.
  9. Please excuse my ignorance, but how do I upload pictures to the forum? thanx Name: Peter D Hendrickson UserName: Felix Corvus IP Address: 75.71.55.75 Email Address: felixcorvii@gmail.com
  10. This is my 1st time posting here. This is one of my recent projects. It's based on a 16th century cavalry helmet/English Civil war Helmet. It's made of laminated plates of 8oz vegtan and water hardened. I have since added the lower half of a fencing mask to it for SCA rapier fighting. Corvus
