I take it one step further..
I use either publisher or photoshop to resize, flip etc my images...
Then I am naughty and gently trace directly on my laptop screen onto my tracing paper. I use a really good quality pencil and hardly press at all, then firm up the lines on a table afterwards.
The laptop screen being backlight really makes tracing easy. But do NOT press hard or you will damage LCD screens. My laptop screen folds flat so it becomes a tablet (kinda)

Naughty naughty!
(Using an ultra-fine Sharpie would help prevent damage to the screen, yes?)

I use a program called GIMP which is free to download. This is something I have used for years for any photo/image manipulation. It's pretty powerful for a free program.
GIMP is good, I've used it online several times.

Thanks for the advice, I'm a little computer challenge but I will try to look up and learn some of this program.
Just open the picture, chose "Picture" from the top menu. Then choose "Resize" for the drop down menu. On the right side you'll see a set of options. I downscale by 25% at a time until it gets too small and then go back up 5% or less at a time until I'm happy with the size.
Important, save the original under a new name, like "Pattern-Original", Picture Manager will work on the picture loaded unless you open a new picture.
Let me know if you have any problems.

I use Paint Shop from Corel for tricky jobs, but for resizing I just use Office Picture Manager. You can resize to a specific measurement, by percentage, etc.

Great find!

How do you guys down size the pattern? I like to put a carving in a bussiness card wallet, the problem is that the carving is to big. Can I use a printer to resize the pattern?
Thanks.
Lou
If you have a photo manipulation package that allows you to resize the image by percentages just scan it and print out a size that looks likely. Tweak the resize to get an exact fit.

You mean these?
They don't look too challenging.

LIke wear a red bandana and beaded beard plaits? and dreadlocks?
He is a mightly fine looking fellow though
Natalie
I look remarkable like him. Except I'm bald, my beard is grey, I'm 30 years older than him and a wee bit heavier. And he's cute, while I'm not. Otherwise, we could be twins.

My wife just said I could make one, but I had to fill it properly.

I was disappointed with the pattern pak. Stick with the books, then you can design anything you want to make.
This. I do "standard" bags with the pattern pak, and go to the books for custom orders. I do tend to take the patterns and modify them quite frequently.

Jovial, sweet!

You could use the Maverick or Hombre pattern as the basis of one. Just make the brim tricorn and you're set, I think. If you want the top domed like that picture, just stitch it "finished side to finished side" instead of the way the pattern states.

Tip. Find a way to allow the buyer to recharge the phone while the case is closed.

The cell phone pattern I posted elsewhere is for a Samsung Moment, btw.

Info on it, please?

Gawdzilla,
Send me your email address through my profile. I have about a dozen images of wolves. I'm working on a project where I plan on carving either wolf eyes or tiger eyes. When I get to the point where I create a template for this project, I'll send it to you as well.
John
Thanks. When I have some experiments ready for viewing I'll send them to you. Email addy coming via message.

As noted elsewhere, I donate leather items to the Endangered Wolf Center for their gift shop. So, I'm looking for ideas for the goodies and am quite willing to steal copy borrow any good carvings I can find. Patterns would be nice, but anything to fire the imagination would be greatly appreciated.
On behalf of our canid guests, I thank you in advance.

I'd add about another 1/4" to the edges that will show for sewing purposes. Leather doesn't fold as neatly as cloth, so that extra material is handy.
-
The chin strap needs to be about twice that wide if you plan to sew it. I'll post a modified cheek pattern when I get it done. Alternative is to have a separate strap that you can attach at both cheeks. That would make for less waste when cutting the leather.

18" x 18" x 1/2" marble tiles from Loew's for $4.99 each. I put four of them together, rough sides facing each other in two layers.
-
After getting feedback from buyers I would suggest you narrow the flap so they plug the recharger in without taking the phone out of the case or leaving it open.

Sorry for the short answer, I was in the cinema and the movie was coming up. "("Hanna" if you're interested.)

I never make an errors, so a sharpie is fine for me.
