  1. Just beware of the shipping cost. I priced a similar unit out before and it was nearly $100 to ship it.
  2. Anyone? Any help is greatly appreciated. Even if you don't know but can point me to someone who might. Thanks.
  3. Hello all, A friend of mine is wondering if any of you have seen or have any information about his late great Uncle's saddles or whips? He was a cowman in Bunnell/ Palm Coast / Elkton, Florida. The logo is attached. He is looking for some of his works as memento's. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
  4. Thanks. And these work well with chrome tanned leathers? That would be my thought as well. The initial creasing would look good while later down the line, it would not?
  5. There are variety of different shapes that are from china on the bay.
  6. Thanks. Do you use a ferrule? And if so, what and how do you use?
  7. How are you attaching the John James blade to the haft?
  8. Can you provide more details as to the mods done to the soldering iron? And some pics please??
  9. Hey all, I am going about my first holster and I really like the idea this guy has in the picture below. But I am not sure what it's called, or what exactly it is. If you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
  10. Thank you for all your help. I knew it would be something simple that I wasn't doing. I'll try the scratch awl solution first, and then go from there. I really like the plexi-glass idea too.
  11. Hello all, I have run into a problem, and maybe it's a simple solution but for the life of me I can't figure it out. I am making a wallet and when I measure and cut, the angles of the corners keep getting off. The sides are parallel, but they are not perpendicular. How do you get the sides parallel, but also to be perpendicular? I have thought to use a square ruler, but the slightest movement when making the second cut will cause the angle to shift. This means that when I lay the parts of the wallet together I get overlap along the edge. I included an exaggerated picture to better describe the problem.
  12. Hello all, I am looking for different ways of getting the flap of my pouch to stay closed. I know I could use velcro, but I want to try something else. The bag magnetic clasps are also an option, but I think they might scrape the cigar cutter as it goes in. Anyone have experience with those bag magnetic clasps? I also want it to slide in an out of the pocket easily so a strap around it, would make it too bulky. Any ideas or discussion on my previous thoughts is greatly appreciated. Here's what I have so far:
  13. Hello all, Well it seems my exotic leathers thread didn't get any response, so I am going to try and do this on my own. From all the descriptions I can find, nubuck leather is a leather that has been buffed or rubbed in a way to create the nubuck finish. So my question to you all is: Can a person create a nubuck leather themselves? I plan to do this to a Croc hide that I have. But you all know the expense of Croc hide, so I don't want to ruin it. Is it possible to finish a Croc hide to nubuck by yourself? Or is this something that should be done at the tannery? If you have experience doing something like this, please share. Thanks to all.
  14. Wow, that's a lot of options. I think I will try the wire brush and the sandpaper. I really need to get a good knapp, so I don't think the sandpaper is going to do the best job. But I can't knock it till I tried it. Thanks to all who answered.
  15. Hey all, I have some vintage leather that the knapp on the back is very smooth. I mean it is slick as the front. I was looking at getting a leather rougher to help when I need to laminate/glue the pieces of it. Is there any homemade rougher or cheaper version than the $50 Tandy leather rougher? I was thinking of a wire dog hair brush, but I have yet to use that. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  16. I have seen, on various boots and watch straps, a leather described as nubuck alligator or nubuck crocodile. Does anyone know anything about this leather and where I might purchase some?
  17. Ok, So I have been looking for the past weeks and still can't find any english end point that comes more to a point. Are there any of the custom tool makers that make these end punches? All the ones I could find (King, Gore, Butler, etc.) only make hand tools or tooling stamps. So is there any maker who makes custom or at least "pro series" of english end punches??
  18. Thanks so much for the compliments. And even more thanks for the help. Goatskin is wonderful to work with.
  19. Hello all, I have been looking for an end punch that will give me a pointed end instead of a semi rounded end. I included a picture to describe what I am talking about. I am not sure if there is an end punch that does this, but I would like to know what you all thought. The english point I have now creates a small round to the end vs. a pointed end.
  20. Thanks to all who helped me out. Once I got started it wasn't that hard to accomplish. Let me all know what you think. It is a thick strap, because it goes on a Panerai which is a huge watch. The straps for a Panerai are usually 4-6mm thick. Anyways here are the other thousand words:
  21. Ok, so I got some pecards and I was going over what you said again, and I am not sure what "gum the flesh side" means? The front and back of the strap is dyed. So I need to make sure the back does not rub off onto my wrist. Pecards will solve that problem?
