Well Ferg, thanks for the kind words. Ma's doing ok. I'd sure like to see that book you're writing. The friend that this little holster and sheath is for, keeps wanting me to get with him and put together a book on some of our more colorful experiences in our 60+ combined law enforcement years. all we ever get done is to start talking, laughing, remembering and that's it. I guess that I may have misled all on here. I not about to kick off -- I just can't see well enough and I can not wield an awl well enough with hands that have no strength and that cause the discomfort mine seem destined to do.
THANKS to all for their kind word and considerations. Mike

Hi Mike,
I didn't think you were on your last legs. Our generation is too dam tough to let go so easily. Glad to hear Ma is doing better. Tell her I think of her every time I think of you.
This book is hard work. Four years of my life, you would think it had been fifty. My oldest daughter had been after me to write what I remembered from those days.
I told her I didn't think I could remember enough to make it interesting. Finally told her in June I would try.
After about a week my infamous memory kicked it into high gear.
Other than some things I will probably re-write, that portion is finished. I have "proof read" several times, corrected grammar and sentence construction. I continue to catch "funky" punctuation
I hadn't seen before. Formatting for the printing company is another story. It won't be more than 150 pages I think and I am not going to sell it. Will only get relative few printed.
I will certainly put you on the list. Send me your mailing address.
Stay well and give MA an extra hug every day.

Hi my friend I'm currently looking to get a skiving machine and can't decide between a cobra np10 or the techsew sk5 . I believe a cobra is a nippy brand and the sk5 is a global brand. I read all the posts on skiving machines. I live on the east coast .Dabbling in leather work , light stuff, but will like to do heavy work also. Currently using Lisa sorrel knives. I have a techsew 2700 sewing machine . And will get heavy sewing machine in future. Thanks reason I don't post and ask questions in forum is due to trolls etc. thanks again

Those two skivers or practically identical except some times one is higher priced than the other.
Personally, I believe we should learn to skive by hand with a good skiving knife, I use a small round knife that is maddeningly sharp. Like that word? lol
The Fortuna is the machine that most clones are copies of. It is terribly expensive and only seldom does a used one come up for sale.
If I can help further just let me know.

Hi Ferg, I saw a 2010 thread where you mentioned a smooth needle plate for a 206RB machine. Did you ever find one?
I have occasional projects with 5-7 oz leather with both sides "finished side out", therefore I'd be interested in any tips you can share on setting this machine up so that it doesn't leave serration marks on the leather. I just got the machine a week or so ago, and I'm currently getting set up. I'm following a lot of Wiz's suggestions from over the years, but thought I'd ask you about your experiences.
Thanks!

Having nothing to do with leather in particular,
Having grown up on a farm many years ago we had five beautiful Percheron horses including a stud.
We done most of the farming on our 72 acres with the horses and were taught how to care for them and use them at a very early age.
I can still smell the harness and the unique smell draft horses have.
We have one of the largest Amish communities about three hours drive from our home. They have gotten so I can talk to them, probably because I am as old as they are. lol They will allow me to photograph their horses if I don't get any of their folks in the photo.

Great photos! We had two totally black Percherons, MAJOR and DAN. Dan lived to be 26 if I remember correctly, he was sway backed, gentle, worked like a dream, and we rode the old "Natural Saddle" whenever we got the chance. Major was a big, shiny, and beautiful young gelding that stood on my feet in the stall when I tried to get a bridle on him. Never hurt me, he was just having fun. "NICK SETTLEMIER" was a dappled gray stallion. My older brother and I would get on him while he was in his "chamber". We had woods and a spring fed stream running through our property. Nick never failed to give us a fabulous ride until he decided to get rid of us. He just laid down in the Creek! FANNY was the mama of Major and Prince. Fanny was dappled roan as was Princess.
I still love them and can stroke almost all I meet without a problem. At going on eighty three years I allow folks like you to care for and feed them. LOL
That you so much for memories brought to the fore.

Hi Mike,
Haven't communicated for some time. How are you and Mom Kat doing?
My wife goes into surgery this coming Thursday for cancer surgery. We are "Rattled" but hopeful.
