  1. Whats the best way to clean this thing up? I sold the machine so the Bobbin winder is surplus to my needs and I'd like to get it cleaned and ready for sale. Just heat and scrub?
  2. Thank you, I didn't know if I should clean it or leave if (horror stories of antiques being worth less when cleaned and all).
  3. I've acquired an electric winder for my Randall Harness stitcher, previously I've used this Pearson No 6 winder and it's worked flawlessly, but I probably won't use it anymore. Anyone know the value of one of these? It's beautiful to look at if nothing else
  4. Awesome! Thanks for the info. I already have a modern pony so I'll leave this one as is and user it for a display of some kind. Many thanks!
  5. At least I think that's what I bought listed as "antique clamp", I figured for $20 (Canadian mind you...) How could a guy go wrong. All the screws turn, it clamps down, neat conversion peice if nothing else. There's even a plate on the bottom to keep the screw from digging into the bench. Gotta be old, any guesses? Thought I'd share.
  6. And whipped these up last night Celtic pattern in Brown: And "Triweave" in Java ("bi-weave on the keeper, as triweave was just too wide for a belt loop ) : Really enjoying the Embosser, I'd recommend it to anyone thinking of one to add to the collection if you have a desire to do embossing.
  7. The Celtic worked out good, even found some Celtic Chicago screws.
  8. @Rockoboy I agree, I need to either find brushed nickle Chicago screws or buttons, or change the buckle, it was just what I had at the time in the basket-o-buckles in 1-1/4" @billybopp Thanks, I ran across your post when I was researching if I wanted to purchase it or not, thanks for posting, it was very helpful. Great idea to take off the one guide and emboss wider leathers, I'd have never thought of that. I think there might be a plain line roller, there was something that didn't look like the rest, I'll check it out when I get home tonight. Love the little boxes! That's a bit above my talent set right now. I've been on the lookout for new rolls, have a 1-1/4" basketweave on it's way as we speak (current one is 1-1/2"), I also have doubles of the triweave and motorbike one if anyone's looking to trade. I've also found this site: https://leatherstampstools.com/31-belt-rollers Not sure if those fit my machine or not, if they do, I'll be ordering some. I also found an old Tandy catalog online showing some of the rolls offered, I'd like to get the "3820-00 rope" one and the "3826-00 Geometric" one
  9. Thank you, sorry I missed this post. I'll dig out some grommets and see what fits what.
  10. Had a chance to try out the embosser for real rather than just scraps, turned out really well, 7-8oz veg, wet, embossed (even did the belt loop ) at 1-1/2" with the "basketweave" pattern, dyed "java" afterwards, I guess I could have run a shell stamp around the belt loop to make it match, maybe next one.: Then tried the "leaves and acorns" on a 1-1/4" 7-8oz, same process, wet, emboss, dye in Java, this one I didn't know what to do with the belt loop so I took a look through all the stamps I got in the deal, and sure enough, a tiny acorn. Why not. Might be a bit "kitchy" buy my wife liked it so... Not a huge fan of the buckle but I'll look though all the stuff and see if I can find a more appropriate one, I used some Chicago screws instead of snaps so I can easily change the color in case a brass buckle or otherwise is more appropriate, we'll see when I get digging into the buckles.
  11. I like your Avatar, we have a friend that works at KW so we made her some goods to give out at Xmas:
  12. Some of the buckles: Pretty specific audience for this puppy: And hat bands! Been on my list to try a hat band, now I have the hardware to try:
  13. These are neat (ran out of attachment space on the other posts). Next up is the 10.5'lb (yes, I weighed it) of buckles, but that will have to wait for another night, have to find some bins, pegboard, or something to get all these organized. There were keychain rings, small medium and large spring snaps for dog collars, and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff mixed in but I won't bore with all that.
  14. They aren't expensive, but they add up. Got conchos? All the spades, diamonds, hearts and clubs I'll ever need I think: Skulls arn't my market or my thing, but If I never need..so...many...skulls...even those little buckles have skulls on them These go with the jeweled rivets I think: I got the market on the rodeo..things: And misc:
  15. Ok. Got the tools mostly organized, time to dive into the Rivets, snaps, and conchos. This table (8') is just rivets, eyelets, and snaps Table-o-rivets and such: All of these a guy could want, in all sizes: Same thing with eyelets: Lots of jeweled rivets: From big to small: All manner of spikes: Rivets and D'rings, I'm not going to need to buy rivets for a good long while (I apologize for the camera, phone update and the camera can't take pics indoors anymore): I dunno even where to start, that's a large ziplock freezer bag full:
  16. Here's some of the die's I'm not sure about. I think #1 is for spiked collar things, it's spring loaded, but I'm not sure which bottom it belongs to. Anyone can identify any of these and tell me which pairs with with and what they are intended for you'll save me a great deal of experimenting if not, I'll start going through the hardware and seeing what fits what.
  17. Yeah, sorting and organizing is taking a while, I haven't really gotten into tooling yet, but when I do... the snap/rivet setters I'm not sure what they are all for, there's 13 or 14 sets, must have labels on the bags, 6 do not. I hope to post some pictures of them and see if anyone can tell me which pair with which and what they are for.
  18. Also included with the purchase was two huge slabs of Granite, couldn't get a picture until now since they were so heavy I coudn't get them out of the car without help. Put one on one of my workbenches, and it darn near fit perfectly! Unsure what I'll do with the other slab, maybe donate it to a local leatherworker, pass it on as they say.
  19. I've had an item or two shipped from Germany to Canada as well I'm a fan of heavy stuff I'd be interested, but only in the whole unit, you've done such a nice job restoring it it's too much of a shame to separate them (IMHO). Gimme a price, shipped to my door (I can PM the address if needed) and I'll tell you if I'm interested or not. I have a broker so I can handle the import side no problem. I'm a big fan of that shade of green by the way Last item I received from Germany over Xmas, complete axle for a Gelandewagen, rotor to rotor:
  20. Thanks for the info. I happen to have a winder for one of these. I'd prefer a whole kit-and-caboodle with a treadle stand and the works, but would consider this one since the price is right and the resto looks top notch. I've had very large items shipped from Germany before without issue, if a person can get it properly crated it shouldn't be an issue (though expensive, to be sure) to ship the whole thing. I'd just hate to break it up from the stand.
  21. So as a serious buyer (I'm going to look at one this coming Sunday, just the head) can someone tell me more about: Is this more desirable than the older style? The one I'm going to look at is the older style I think, has the "The British United Shoe Machine Co LTD" on the handwheel, these two are similar prices, if this one is better and more usable or desirable vs the older one?
  22. Clamped to the bench, and properly wet leather makes a big difference. Here's some shots of some of the other (and a few of the same) on raw veg tan with proper wetting and adjustment, now we're cooking with gasoline! So there's a really thin barb wire roll, this is a pass on each side, one side with medium pressure, the other with much more (too much I think) An unofficial unlicensed motorbike company perhaps? For some reason there's a double roll (ie, I have two identical ones of this one) if anyone's looking to trade. I'm not even sure, really not. Religious or just a unique pattern? Nicer definition of the oak leaves and acorns Properly centered and cased celtic: Properly centered and cased (could have used a bit more pressure) tri-weave, also have two identical one's of this one for some reason, again, anyone wants to trade a roll for a roll I'm up: Got the basket-weave (my fav) centered and on cased leather: Yeah this one is not my style, but for a biker belt maybe? And now, not in black, the wildlife scene. Honestly the definition is much better than the photo suggests, just doesn't photograph well: And there was a hand embosser, so my wife tried it out, pretty neat actually, be good for edges and other items:
  23. Not yet, not even sure what half of them are to tell the truth. Found one of these BNIB in the collection: https://www.tandyleather.ca/en/product/craftool-keen-edge-sharpener
  24. And a better shot of the horse/floral and I forget what the other pattern was called. The horse is again not my thing, but the detail is very nice, this one I sprayed down lightly before running through, it was the first one we tried so I had no idea how the bushings were supposed to be setup, hence it's a bit off center. I thought this pattern wasn't that nice until it was rolled out on the leather, now I kinda like it: All in all, I'm really happy with the machine, I was very hesitant to pick it up since it seems everybody stopped making them, and I wasn't exactly sure why. If I can get this thing setup and running in 30min out of the box, I'm sure anyone can. Now off the the hardware store to find some bolts and get some real leather straps cased, and run through!
  25. Since I had a difficult time searching and finding the kind of results one can expect from a Tandy Pro Embosser 3900-00, I figured I'd upload some pictures of a few test pieces we ran through while figuring out the machine. machine wasn't even bolted to the bench yet so results will defiantly improve once that's done. Note these are just tests on belt ends that I've cut off when sizing belts, so most pieces are dyed (ie, I didn't case them properly to take an impression, yet the detail is still outstanding) and sealed with atom wax which makes wetting impossible for the most part, also edges aren't finished and we didn't have them quite lined up every time. Even still the detail on the "wildlife" roll is amazing (probably not a pattern one would dye black, but I was using what was in the scrap bin ): Got the basket-weave darn near perfectly aligned, the detail is better than it looks, the shiny black makes for hard picture taking, note the left side of the picture the pattern runs off a bit? That's because the hand crank is tensioned by some spring washers, and they were not tightened out of the box, after tightening, the handle (and thus the roll) no longer moves side to side, so the pattern placement is more consistent now that we discovered that little tidbit: This one's labeled "Tri-Weave", not my thing at all but it was included so figured I'd give it a run: Celtic (this one was not lined up at all, I switched from a 1-1/2" to the 3/4" without re-adjusting): And "oak-leaf and acorns" Again this was amateur hour at it's finest, results will only get better on properly cased leather and when the machine is firmly bolted to a workbench. Very happy with the results thus-far.
