  1. I know technically this should go into the motorcycle section, but here it is anyway. :)

I am doing my first seat for a fellow, and all he really needs is a cover replacement. Can I use the same base that the current seat is on? (he said the whole things comes off.) Can I just take the old torn cover off of the padding and make a new cover while keeping the padding and the base it sits on? I was hoping to tool some nice designs into it also.

  2. Hey guys, I'm looking to make a leather cloak lined with reindeer fur. I will be using a full hide from waterhouse leather so that there will be no back seam and there will be a hood. My question is, how do I do the lining? also if I wanted to make the lining detachable so that I can take it out how would I do that?

  3. okay, here are the pictures, I don't know how I got signed in under another name before. LOL ;P

Again, these are all in veg tan leather but I will be making more of each in latigo. They are not completely finished, the veg tanned bracers will be custom carved while the latigo bracers will be plain

here are a few more. I will also be making barrettes, and key fobs, and small items like that.

  4. Here are a few pictures of a recent back quiver project I've been working on. It has a three point chest strap and is adjustable. It was made to fit my brothers frame, but my smaller sister can also wear it if she cinches down the strap.

  5. I agree with Hivemind. I recently made a three point chest harness back quiver for my brother and I measured from where it would attach to the ring over the shoulder he waned it slung over and to what point it would attach to the body of the quiver. I then measured around his chest to determine the other strap length, adding several inches to each side for the attachment to the ring. I made it so that the chest strap can be adjustable around the body with a buckle end. However, if you are producing these to sell at a convention or a fair I would suggest as Hivemind did to make them long and then you can trim them down later. In fact you can still sew everything together and then trim the free strap end to the proper length. However for a truly custom job, I would not attach the ring to the straps until you had taken someone's measurements and then you can hand sew it together and they can pick it up later. That's just the way that I would do it, for what it's worth.

  6. First point of contention: You really need to work on your beveling. If you are having trouble getting the hang of moving the beveler as you tap it, at least use a modeler

and smooth the bevels you have.

You selected one of the most difficult Basket Weave designs out of a bunch. Practice on some scrap leather before doing a "Keeper". Next to edge lines aren't very good.

Some of your work looks like the leather may have been too wet when you knifed it as well as stamping. If you are using fairly thin leather, use a thicker swivel knife blade.

That makes your knife marks wider without cutting deeper.

    ferg

Thanks for the advice! I am always looking to improve and it is great to get some real opinions about my work. What I can do better. My family all think that it is great work, but then they don't really see other peoples work or know what to look for when they do critique. Please feel free to make any additional comments about what I can do to improve.

    cheers!
