  4. How do you guys keep natural leather clean while molding, tooling, burnshing etc? It seems that no matter what I try, I get sweat stains or stains from saddle soap or wax on my belts and holsters wich forces me to dye everything black to cover up te blemishes. How do you make a natural or Russett holster without any stains on it.....should I stain and seal the leather first and if so how am I going to case the leather before molding it.....everything I know about leatherwork I have learned from this forum and I wish to thank everyone for thier help.... Thank You Don

  7. Can someone give me the measurement of a KBar knife handle where the retention strap would go? A friend of mine asked me if I could replace the missing retention strap on his old leather K-Bar knife sheath. The problem is that he sent me the sheath without the knife and he lives out of state. I asked him if he could measure the handle for me and he was way too vague for me to trust his estimate....any help would be greatly appreciated....

  18. I just made my first dog collar and I was wondering if I need to seal it. 19. I'm trying to find leather to make a briefcase for my girlfriend and several people have suggested making it out of harness/bridle leather or even veg tan. I have checked the usual suppliers (W&C, HO, Springfield) and no one has harness/bridle leathers that thin. My experience with W&C has been less than satisfactory yet they seem to be the only tannery that will let me buy a single hide and MIGHT split it for me. My issue with W&C is that I have never received an order from them in less than 6 weeks and my last order was just short of 3 months. On top the the 3 month wait the hides are nearly unusable. The hides looked like the poor heard wandered into a mine field before being shipped to W&C, and theses were all "Standard" or their best grade of leather. HO holds us hostage by demanding a 10 hide minimum and the quality is very hit and miss as well......Springfield has been a joy to work with but they don't carry top grades or all colors. I also dont think they can split the leather for me.....Am I asking too much or are the little guys just not worth the time to tanneries? Can Someone recommend a good quality supplier with a splitter?
  20. My girlfriend wants me to try and make a briefcase that is firm enough to stand up with a laptop in it, similar to Esantoro's maverick bags. I bought some 5-6 oz chrome tanned leather but it seems too soft to make a semi rigid bag. Can anyone point me to the leather that might work? It seems like a veg-tan but Esantoro and Saddleback both say that they use chrome tan.....Thanks in advance.... Don
  21. Do you still have some of these for sale? If not where do you get them?
  22. Thank you, thats exactly what I needed.....My Blue gun measured about 25 thou under on both dimensions...... I dont suppose you have access to a 21 for the same measurements? Thanks again Don
  23. Does anyone have a real glock 17/22 that they can measure the slide width on before I try to make a holster from an undersized blue gun? I have micrometers to measure the blue gun but no real gun to test against.....if the blue gun is too undersized I was thinking I could put some tape on the slide to build it up.....
  24. anyone know where I can get Lift the dot snaps in a brass finish?.. I checked with scovill and they only show nickle and black finishes.....Col Littleton uses them but I cant find them anywhere.....
  25. Thanks for the info....Both sources look like what I had in mind...I ordered some of pebble grain stuff from waterhouse and I want to get some of the smooth stuff from Hide House as well...I really appreciate the response...I have only bought from wickett and craig and the leather is pretty stiff...
