I made templates for my cigar cases out of sheet aluminum. I made sure the edges weren't sharp. I lay it down on the sides of veg tan I get and use a break away utility knife and cut around the template by dragging it along the edge. As long as I hold it down good It works really great for me until I get a clicker die bought.

I called the awesome folks at industrial sew tech where I got my machine in cincinati today. I explained my problem and he said the same thing along with making sure the top thread tension was nice and tight as well I tried holding the two threads nice and tight along with tightening the top thread tension even more and this seemed to aleviate the problem. Andrew Chee, both sides of the stitch are visible. I mainly make cigar cases and both sides are visible and I always try to make sure everything is as perfect as possible. :-) thanks all for the tips. Attached pic is what I mainly do.

Hi, I just purchased a chandler 406rb-1 from a local place and they set it up for me. I have never used a sewing machine before so I just jumped right in to speed up my sewing process. I'm having a problem with the backside of the leather while starting the stitch. I'll back stitch about three stitches and then proceed forward. The backside of the start looks like the included picture. It bunches up a bit. I'm sure this is not normal and can be adjusted out or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm making sure I'm holding both threads tight while Starting the stitch. Other info- stitching through 2 layers of 5-6oz at a total of 3/16" thick. Machine was set up for #207 with #24 needle with four sided diamond tip.
