    Firefighting Items

Have not posted in awhile. Here are a few of my recent projects. Included is a holster I attempted, i think it turned out a little large, however I learned a few things
  2. pattern trade. I have shield shapes.. I'd be interested in a radio pouch pattern
  3. I've made a few helmet shields recently but this one was just delivered to San Francisco Fire. Thought I'd share.
  4. The letters are brush painted with enamel model paint.
  5. I am looking for a spring loaded pad holder that I can use to attach a notepad to a leather notepad holder I am making. Any ideas.
  6. Here are the two most recent items I created. A 2 inch wide set of leather firefighting turnout suspenders. Two custom radio straps.
  7. I haven't noticed any reduction in strength for drilling stitching holes. Now that I have a sewing machine.. I'll rarely use anything else...
  8. Very cool project. Nice when we get time to make something so useful. I am jealous. I want one.
  9. I love the machine. What made me buy it? Tired of saddle stitching.. lol.. I have never done much lacing, but do a ton of saddle stitches. Also I have customers that want decorative stitching on rifle slings and suspenders.. So it was a no brainer.
  10. NIce, how did you secure the lining? is it a rolled edge?
  11. 3 - 4 oz should work good and hold up to the wet forming process.
  12. I recently purchased a cobra class 4. I am wondering what the tricks are for sewing backing material onto straps. If it is a leather backing I know I can glue / stitch, and then finish the edges. What if i want to sew some form of padding? what are the tips and tricks?
  13. Wow thank you for the responses. Very informative, and much appreciated. Pictures would make this thread more informative for the next newbie lost like me..
  14. So today I worked on a notebook I have been putting off as I didn't feel like stitching it. I received my Cobra 4 yesterday and after messing around with it a little I thought id give it a go on a real project. This is a notepad I made for myself. What do you think? I think the stitching turned out pretty good for my first run at it. PS I rushed the tooling as I really wanted to sew the thing.
  15. Thank you rick, i did go to the website, and i have found the names for everything. But still dont neccesarily know in what circumstances to use them. I also tried putting the slotted plate on after removing the feed dog, when i did this the material didnt feed and the stitch length was a mess
  16. Have not posted any projects in awhile. Just thought i would share.
  17. I am on day two with my cobra class 4. It takes some time and reading.. But dont give up. With about twenty pieces of scrap leather I am already figuring it out.
  18. Ok I am sitting looking at a pile of pressor feet, plates, and walking dogs. I am a tad lost, the instructions say which to use, however they arent labeled. Also if i remove the feed dog to use the stirrup plate ( which one is that again ) how will the material be moved through the machine? and which pressor feet do I use? Also whats the right pressor foot? which one is that? and is it used alone? i am so confused... is there a better reference then the book that came with the machine, the video didnt seem to adress all my questions either. PS I LOVE THIS MACHINE. I SHOULDN'T HAVE WAITED SO LONG TO GET IT..
  19. Ok so I just received a new cobra class 4. I am sure I'll have a thousand questions.. But here is a few. 1. Does the bobbin color have to match the thread color. 2. Do u always start a run with a back stitch ? Or if u stitch around the project and overlap is that enough to lock the stitches in. 3. Is there a video or reference that explains all the different plates and walking feet ?
