  1. Way late to the party here, but I've been seeing the same thing with the shortage. Just ordered and received a quart of 600 from frogjelly leather though. Hope this helps.
  2. Rob, does this clip (CLIP6-07 Metal Holster Clip) have a gloss finish? I think I ma want to move to something more like this design rather than what I have been using, simply for the fact the CLIP8-10PC type I have using is not (double layer) gun belt friendly. I really like what crossbreed uses because of the squared off opening for the belt, they fit great on thick belts.
  3. Well done Billy. And I second the posting of the fix it list.
  4. Hopefully you have worked out your machine by now, trust me, I am feeling your pain! I am on my 2nd new boss in a week, and I still have flippin problems! Well, I did up until about an hour ago. I am under the assumption these machines are "new", but after disassembling the shuttle and hook, I'm not so sure. This thing was missing stitches right out of the box! Followed all of their trouble shooting that was included in the manual, and nothing. The hook was just baaarely missing the loop, but not every time. Took the front end apart and found the shuttle driver is so sloppy, that it has to be an old part. You can see wear marks and everything. The flat of the shaft bore on the driver was oblonged, where it should sit tightly on its shaft. McGyver'd it and it works great now, But you bet they'll be hearing from me in a few hours.
  5. Very true D. This week I will be attempting my first all leather holster. Trust me, you all will be hearing from me...mainly screaming for help!
  6. Thanks for the comments and compliments. And thanks for showing me the proper clip use. Good to know. I just use a handmade foam press, but I'd like to experiment more with vacuum forming. The question of which material wears a finish worse has been a question for as long as kydex has been around. I have looked into in the past and got a good mix of views, good and bad from both. All I can say is that with my personal weapon being in the same hybrid holster for the better part of a year, it has no wear. And I think depending on type of finish on the gun will determine how severe it is and how quickly. Of course I'm just one case, I'm sure there are others that would say the opposite. Nobody likes wear on their gun, but if you're gonna carry it everyday, I think no matter what you choose and use, eventually it will happen.
  7. Thanks for the advice! The bump looks to me like it works together with hook in the outer part if the clip to retain the belt, but I could be wrong. Just got a decent size shipment, so ill have to burn thru these fir but I will look into it. Just that little cover on the mag release makes it almost impossible to accidently press it. Even with the holster in hand it is difficult/ flat out won't release. So pretty cool. The retention setup only applies to the small of back holsters. The hip models have enough belt pressure for proper retention, whereas the "dip" in the small of your back does not. It's just a little added security. They are not lined, haven't tried it but I'm sure it would create a clearance issue unless I molded the kydex over the lining and the gun. What is typically used to line holsters There is a dyed and edge coated 1" leather disc behind each clip for spacing and "tuckability'. And I have recently moved to black hardware, so good call! 8. Thanks for the compliment! I do probably send too much time on it, but I enjoy it and people really like the look. I haven't had any wear issues thus far. Hopefully it stays that way.
  9. Sorry, was grumpy this morning when read this lol. What don't you like about them? I love them. They are extremely comfortable and very functional.
  10. Not a ton of leatherwork involved in these, but what little there is I definitely enjoy! Edging, dying finishes. Hmmm where's my pic??
  11. I hammered these babies down and I am happy with the results! The idea of a smaller bottom thread sounds good to me. The type of holsters I am building may end up directly against the skin, so I don't want any rough threads or anything else protruding and causing irritation. hence the grooving of both sides. But hammering them down seems to be a good fix. The pre punching holes method could come in handy, thanks for sharing that as well. Oh, and that is the shiniest hammer iv'e ever seen!
  12. All, has anyone built a leather OWB holster for a Ruger GP100? I am trying to put something together for a friend and I am really struggling! All my experience is with IWB Kydex/Leather Holsters. I have made an attempt at this, and have learned a few things from it already, But where I am having difficulty is the mounting to the belt. The "ears" for the belt slots seem like they have to be a mile apart from one another to allow enough room to flex inward toward the belt in order not to stress the entire holster <I think the problem is the 1.5 in thick cylinder being right against the belt>. I am running out of time and don't want to disappoint him, or myself. I am too stubborn to give up, but not too stubborn to ask for help!! Thanks!
  13. I read thru some of your posts and that was the reason I bought it. Don't have the $$ for a bigger one yet. Tippmann has already made arrangements for a swap, so they are being good about it. The personal emails I received after I ordered it gave me the feeling they actually care. So that's awesome. Couple questions: What does the stirrup plate do for you? Is there a way to make the bottom thread become more flush with the bottom surface of your belt or holster? When hand stitching I would groove, punch holes, and then groove the bottom surface to recess the thread, but I'm scared to lay a "blind" bottom groove, for fear I would miss it.
  14. My new Boss came last night. Happy. Attempted to install the guide roller and found the threads for the mounting hole in the casting was completely stripped out. Upset. Since I had the machine out and setup, figured I would run a couple test pieces. Every two strokes, jamming up. *$! OFF. Back in the the box. Going back tomorrow. Try again.
  15. I have used only Tandy in Cincinnati and Zack White. I give Chad and Travis at Tandy props, as they are EXTREMELY helpful and a pleasure to deal with. They are more than willing to answer my questions and offer advice. Shipping has always been 5-10$ and is always new day. That are about 45 miles away. Now Zack White on the other hand...ggrrr...my blood pressure is going up as we speak. I placed an order on 1/30...and it is still NOT here. If you call, they are nice, and so far I have been happy with the shoulders i buy, and the precut strips are nice too...but Holy crap it takes 4-Ever! Sounds like I need to give Springfield a try. Anybody use weaver?
  16. Send a shipping address to sobholsters@gmail.com, and ill get you taken care of.
  17. Amen to that. Got on the site and its showing sales are suspended due to backlog. Rob, what are the cost of the clips? Also, are they a gloss finish? The last set of glossy clips I got squeaked terribly against the leather. The matte finish ones I currently use do not.
  18. I posted a reply from my "smartphone" earlier, but apparently it didn't come thru. Yes I do believe these will be long enough. I compared it against two layer of 8-9 and there is enough room to curl the other end over and have it grab. Id be glad to mail you some as I have plenty, and they are not my staple eyelets. It will save you the trouble of ordering a large qty and paying shipping. Let me know!
  19. What types of build will you be doing? All leather or hybrid style?
  20. What types of build will you be doing? All leather?
  21. Do you use eyelets that are set with a hammer, or a press? I use .25 eyelets that require the use of a small press and a die for mounting kydex to leather. If you want something that will never let go, these are it. Downfall: Don't screw one up. Serious PITB to get out! Let me know if you need more info.
  22. looking at the photos its hard to say if the ones I use are any better, and they definitely don't come at .50c, (trust me, I wish) but they are sturdy and they do the job. KnifeKits.com carries them and charges 1.60 each if you order 10 or more. http://www.knifekits.com/vcom/product_info.php?cPath=41_56_407&products_id=1486 They don't fit well over the Kydex reinforced belts I make though. Too tight for the thickness of belt. so I just make the clips that Velcro to the back of the belt if I sell a belt as well. Two things to watch for with these clips: 1.They don't have rounded edges. Its not that they are sharp, but definitely not rounded, like ones Tandy carries (@ like 3.50 each, ouch). it could be me just being picky.. 2. if you order these, type a note in the comments section during checkout to ensure the clips are "straight". I have had numerous ones that are bowed, and/or the outer portion of the clip is not in line with the back, and it looks like crap. But since I started leaving a note, they have complied. Hope this helps! Your leather quality looks good, what cut is it and where do you get it?
