  1. Why are short skirts becoming so popular.. i could understand on ladies but not saddles. i see all these saddles with the skirts cut 3 in above where the rigging plate ends. the skirts distribute weight and add padding with sheepskin. that's the plus of western saddles vs. English. It may make the saddle lighter but that doesn'tt help much when you pinpoint the weight into a smaller area. i do like the lighter look of it...not so bulky...but after i did some research i decided not to shorten the skirts. what are your opinions on this is it another style that's not so functional or does it work just the same.
  2. Are there different brands? High end and low end? average cost? Different types for different uses? SUPPLIERS, where to buy them? Average size? Please help and thank you!!
  3. I am not asking for legal advice. Just general discussion on the topic. What needs to be done in order to make profit from your crafts. Why is no one talking about this? Is it a taboo kind of question in crafts. If it is just no one reply and I will know better next time
  4. Go to www.montanahorseman.com. I went to this school its a five week course, they have rooms for you and are great friendly people. Dale is an awesome teacher the info you learn there is mindblowing. When I went there was a girl from Switzerland, they have people from all over the world come here. It is in Belgrade MT. I built myself a really nice saddle
  5. I just got home from Montana horseman saddle building school. I loved it, it was amazing! We built a saddle in pairs then built our own saddles while helping each other out and they were all different. Now I am working on getting a shop together, I have a shop at home, just have to make it a saddle shop. I already have some people wanting me to build a saddle so I'm working on getting all my tools and supplies. What does it take to build and sell saddles, I mean I understand the craft, art, advertising and such I am confused about the business side of it. Do I need to create an LLC or get a tax ID number now or should I just focus on my skills and worry about that later? They make it easier to do this on the internet now but what do you have to do to build and sell saddles without getting into trouble? I can't find anything on the internet about this. Of course the IRS wants you to register but do you really have to? I know its probably a dumb question but I don't know anything about this. I am a 23 year old woman with absolutely no entrepreneurship knowledge. Any help from someone who has experience running a shop would be so helpful.
