  1. Awesome project! I love the lining... Think I saw the same stuff in a 1965 Mustang trunk.
  2. Thanks tedhit. This was my first attempt at anything resembling a Sheridan style carving so I really took my time. I used a craftaid for the transfer pattern and took about 4 hours on each corner piece. The lacing only took about an hour. Staring at it wondering "how should I do this" and watching videos as well as researching this site for guidance... I didn't even count that time! v/r, steve
  3. Nice case. I read about terminating hand stitching between the layers by going back after the last stitch and not going all the way through but going between layers with both ends, (saddle stitch), and then tie the ends together in a simple double knot. Clip it short and then tuck the tails between the layers. I've made about half a dozen knife sheaths and end them all that way now. V/R, Steve.
  4. Thanks WLG! I have a ton to learn when it comes to leathercraft but it sure is fun practicing. The floral corners are from a craftaid pattern. I drew up the letters based on a MS Word font. I'm still trying to learn how to control the swivel knife better. That thing has a mind of its own I swear... This was my first lacing attempt and is a simple cross whip stitch - Lacing is sure easier than hand stitching If you can't tuck the tail between layers to hide it, is there any other way to terminate it other than threading back under a couple of the last "x's" pulled tight? V/R, Steve.
  5. Here's a tablet case I just finished for a friend. Haven't commissioned any serious work yet. Still learning... Any/All comments are welcome. V/R, Steve
  6. Can someone tell me how to resize photos to load up like others do? I just tried to put some on but after the first one, they were too big. Gotta' figger' out how to do the thumbnail upload I guess. Thanks, V/R, Steve in SC
  7. Thanks Chief - And thank you for your service as well! I'll try to post some photos as soon as I figger' out how to get them the right size and make them fit right. V/R, Steve in SC
  8. I've been trolling around here for quite some time. Joined a short while ago and just now have the nerve to post... I've been into "creating" things since I was a teen many moons ago. Had many an art teacher and shop teacher guide me through the creative process. 24 years in the military separated me from a ton of stuff I've always wanted to do so I'm getting a late start on It all. Custom one-off heirloom furniture building is my dream. I'm still saving to build my shop so in the mean time, I am making knives and doing leatherwork. Having a blast so far. Quite challenging to say the least. I've made 2 machete sheaths, 3 smaller sheaths and have been searching for a decent handbag pattern to attempt. Carving has been fun so far. I will continue to hone the skills and post photos as soon as I learn how to do it. Greetings All!!! Steve in SC
