I'm looking for the brass nails that you put at the end of your sewing on a sheath. The ones with a slightly round head and kinda of squareish not round. Can Anyone tell me what exactly they're called and where to buy them? Thank you Troy

I use them for backing on alot of my belts. The cowboys around here think it's cool to have the tick bites, scars and brand marks on them, of course I use grade B HO backs for the tooling side.

Awesome!!!! It's been probably 2 years ago when I looked on the King site. And you are so right, the perception when looking at the stamp photos can be deceiving. So I will check that out again and talk to them too. And since they make tools, I would like to get a "logo" stamp made. And it has to be small too. So this really makes me happy!!!! Your basket weave tool sounds pretty small. I'll have to check out your photos of what you make. Would love to see them! Thanks Troy!I don't have a gallery to look at but here's a pic of one I've done. The skirts are 8" long, they're not exact replicas of any certain saddles just mini ones I can make with little time as possible. Kinda styled this one after the old time high back seats.

lol, get some Go-Joe hand cleaner, or that stuff like it that's orange. It will take most of the stain off your hands, sometimes all of it.

I don't have a clue what causing that but I use clear lac over fieblings antique all the time and never had a problem. Clear lac will cloud up if put on too heavy in humid weather but a second light coat after its dry will fix that.

Antique, look for it in the how to's.

Go to the auto parts store and get some evapo-rust or something like it. Your tools will come out rust free over night.

The metal templates will turn your leather black where it rubs against the damp leather, unless your talking about a clicker dye of some kind.

KKiKoss, what you have there is basicaly the same thing, one is a gel the other liquid. I've never used them for any kind of wrist band so I don't really know if they are good for that but I'm guessing there not. I don't think they'll hold up to sweating. I use the gel on belts and they work great, also on my floral carvings on book covers and such. Someone with more experence with stuff that wears against the skin will have to help you on that.

A dye soaks into the leather to color it. Stains are for antiqueing and highlights, the stain lays on top the leather and even after it has dried can be wiped off with a wet colth. When I use it I spray on the finish to seal it off so as not to smear the finished look.

What kind of stain did you use? Are you sure it wasn't an antique or a highliter.

Troy, will an acrylic matte spray change the color or the black leather or the metal decoration on the harness? What is a name of acrylic matte spray that you use?
Crafts etc, is what I've got. just a off brand hobby lobby carries, It says for wood, fabrics, documents, pictures, glass, and a long list of other things. It doesnt list leather but it works for me.

Nice belts, nice stitching, and nice loops. I can see you take care to make a nice product so I have to ask, why did you leave the edges in that shape? Seems to me a little more work and you'll have a top notch belt.

I'll have to check in the shop tomorrow for the name and let you know. I get it at hobby lobby and have at least two different kinds I use, I think their pretty much the same. It doesn't change anything on my leather, I use the clear and after it dries I can't tell it's there. Just to be safe wait till I look tomorrow and you will want to test it somewhere out of sight.

Saddle lac is what mlapaglia is talking about, it's very shiny though. I use an acrylic matte spray for my framed leather carvings, some have been hanging for 9 years and no problems.
