  1. I was hoping you could answer a couple quick (hopefully) questions on this machine.  I bought this one from the Post Falls Filson auction a few years ago, but just got around to setting it up.

It sews good, but looks like it need a new shuttle, as the point had been hitting the needle.  I purchased one, but after looking at the machine, it looks like the feed bar needs to be removed in order do the replacement.  I can't really see how it attaches and was hoping you could shed a little light there.

Also, it doesn't appear to be getting much, if any oil at the shuttle.  I turned the dial to max and cleaned out the pump filter, but still not getting oil on a piece of paper under the shuttle.  The top is getting plenty of oil (I removed to the top covers), and  I see a drip of oil about ever second in the window.  Not sure if that is correct or not.  I also don't sew at full speed (ever) - should I do something to set it up for slow sewing?

    Thanks for your help.

    John

  2. Wanting to buy a logging boot last. I know what I want, but I'm not sure how to go about purchasing it. Can I just call up J&V and tell them I want a last just like X or do I have to have a design of my own? Or do I need to call a supply house? What I am hoping to get is a reasonable facsimile to a White's #55.
  3. Eric, Tried to send you a message, but your box must be full... John
  4. Have him send the buckle so you can get the measurement correct. You also don't need a slot for the tongue.
  5. I have an 18" Randall #2 Splitter, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a value on it. Thanks
  6. Quick question for you...can you adjust the lift on the walking foot? I am trying to stitch through some foam, and it would be nice if the foot would go a touch higher than it does right now.
  7. Thanks for the info. If you happen to run into a bunch of seconds in a size 42 Short let me know! Or some Tin Pant/Chaps in a 32-34 Waist. Love me some Filson.
  8. For some reason I can't see the pictures, but my 18 has an extra hole as well. If you can post a link to the photo I'll take a look and see if they are identical. Also, where did you find your parts? Always looking for new sources. John
  9. I don't think you can come up with a formula, as all manufacturers of pants are not on the same page either. I wear a 34" jean, but I usually wear a 40" Belt (end of buckle to center hole). Measuring is the only way to be sure. I have them measure the belt the currently wear, from the hole they use to the end of the buckle.
  10. I would try it with something solid as a core. I bet the tubing is kinking and causing the wrinkles.
  11. That really turned out nice. How durable is the cork? I looked into a while back after seeing something on a TV Show. Seems interesting, but not sure I would invest in the material.
  12. Hard to say...maybe just a bad spot. I never oil my belts and have not had one crack.
  13. Where did it crack? Weaver is just referring to wetting it before folding it over the buckle - the moisture makes everything pliable and allows the fibers and surface to stretch instead of tear (crack).
  14. Yes. 1st vid is some type of soft garment leather...probably could use chap leather.
  15. Just getting broke in. The firmest leather is from along the spine, which will result in a longer break in, but it will look the same regardless. My belts look like a big lazy W.
  16. Yeah...that's a tough one. Once you have the holes there, there is no taking them back.
  17. I've never seen a stitched belt that was "Cut to Size" at the time of purchase. I have only seen single layer belts done this way. When customers ask if I can shorten an older, 2 pc, stitched belt of mine, I tell them no...I don't like how it looks afterwards.
  18. I was hoping any of you with some experience can give me a little input on this flower. I am trying to learn Sheridan Carving (just because) and I have "Sheridan Style Carving" and have seen every video I could find on Youtube. Still missing a few sizes of Thumbprints, Flower Centers and I need a Center Shader. This flower is about 2" across, and on something this size I still need to work on my Swivel Knife work, as I occasionally nick the inside edge of a tight curve (you can see a spot at about 7:00 on the flower. An constructive help is greatly appreciated.
  19. Bar grounder is now $25 shipped
