  1. I do not have one yet, but I am going to get one. The reason being, after watching a video from Springfield Leather. They appear to have the ability to cut fairly tight curves, along with long flowing curves with ease. I don't think you'd do it quite as easy with a razor knife. The second big reason is skiving, and that is a huge one for me. The video shows Denny skiving a piece of leather and does it while making it look easy! The video is a bit long, but I think it points out the questions asked quite well. https://youtu.be/8ARqjhTGYR8 Terry
  2. I have not tried it from a phone, but there is another forum for computer type questions and maybe an answer to your question. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showforum=33
  3. Dang, I didn't know you guys did those at Tandy that often! I live up in Rainier but work in Aloha, unfortunately I work graveyard and Friday night is one of my regular nights. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to stay up long enough after work to make one of them.
  4. I don't think they did when he made this post almost 6 years ago, they used to be wholesale only. This is a very old post that was resurrected by a reply.
  5. After trying a couple different ways myself, I looked at the forum for "Invision Power Services" who made the software for this forum and it is not an option as far as I can tell.
  6. Before you buy your granite slab, do yourself a favor and lookup kitchen counter top installation stores and see if you can get a scrap piece or a sink cutout. If you tell them what you are using it for, they will more than likely give you a piece or sell it cheap!
  7. This is not my design or site. http://goo.gl/njl0ul I just thought it was an interesting tooling pattern and wondered how he made that pattern. What stamping tool is being used? It also looks like there is a swivel knife cut through the center of the thread pattern. I'm also guessing you could do a similar pattern with actual red thread! Terry
  8. That sounds like a great idea! Isn't Nigel or @Dangerous Beans in one of those in the UK?
  9. WOW, he is extremely fast! It looks like a soldering iron or something like that.
  10. I resisted posting on the start of this thread... simply because I knew it would eventually get here!!!
  11. I purchased a beginner's kit from Springfield and it was a good start, but there are things in there that I haven't used. I bought the one that came with the granite slab (pricey to ship) and later found a local countertop/kitchen installer that gave me access to their scrap bin. I got another 12" x 12" piece of granite that is cut on 3 sides and I need to get a blade to cut the side that is not cut and they even gave it to me for free. I also bought a 16oz Barry King maul, and it feels amazing in my hand compared to the mallet that came in the kit. I also purchased a couple of different mallet/tools from Harbor Freight. I got a dead blow hammer and use it for stuff that might damage my BK prematurely. They also have a teflon(looking) small hammer/mallet. If I were to be looking for a maul now, it would still be between the BK and Maul Master found on Weaver Leather Supply. Take it for what you paid for this advice.. as I am a newbie but enjoying the craft.
  12. Received mine today, now I need to do another wallet to test it out! Thanks Matt, Terry
  13. PM sent! As for the mail, I used to work as a letter carrier. If you write on the letter "Hand Cancel" and add 21 cents more for postage, then they don't go through the hungry machines! Terry
  14. Welcome to the forum! LOL, after doing a search relating to what you are looking for, I quickly realized that everything I found has your name on it... haha Interesting stuff! Good Luck! Not sure if anything is in this... but thought you might be interested if you haven't seen it yet. https://vimeo.com/30857069
  15. Key fobs, coasters, bracelets, bookmarks, and even some little braided something. All pretty easy to do, and something that people can say "I made that!" Is that the kind of stuff you are talking about? Or something more in depth?
  16. I pinned this to my Pinterest, just so you know it was shared. Thanks for the great tutorial.. Terry
  17. I use a C.S. Osborne diamond awl and for me that pointy tip (after sharpening and polishing) makes it super easy to see the tip before it actually penetrates the leather on the opposite side. I can re-adjust the awl to make sure that I am in my stitch groove allowing my stitches to be even on the back of the piece. Just my $0.02! Terry
  18. Well, I can't say they look great.... haha very creepy and realistic! Great job! Look forward to seeing more!
  19. I had a coworker give me a buckskin side and all he wants in return is a pair of gloves or something made from the leather. I've found some instruction on a pattern and making gloves but most of them are using machines to stitch which I don't have. I am going to hand stitch a pair of them for him, but I have one glove cut out for practice. Yowza, what is the best way to mark the spacing for my stitching? It seems tougher than veg tanned leather to penetrate with my diamond awl, or maybe just because it is softer.
  20. Are you in the Pacific NorthWest? I had never heard of these until I moved to Rainier, Oregon! They are everywhere up here. Cool looking item. BTW, welcome to the forum! I see that is your first post!
