  1. Thanks for the photo of the gears, they have the identical diameter to my gears. So the gears that the supplier sent me are definitely the wrong size, as the big gear is 44mm diameter. The supplier saw blind that the gears he sent me would fit! The two small screws on the bed behind/to the right of the needle/foot could not of been re-tapped to metric ; as they are M3 which is smaller than the 6-40 unf thread that the commercial screw are made. When you ask any of the supplier of parts they can't tell you what thread any of these screws are, all they can say is that they are the correct one for the machine. Does anybody have a copy of the detail drawings which the machines were made from? eg sizes/diameter/thread pitches etc
  2. I forgot to list the serial number My machine serial number is :- W1762160
  3. I want to attach a binder to my singer 111g155, so i ordered a couple of screws to fit the two threaded holes to the rear and right of the foot. When i tried to fit them they wouldn't fit, even though the supplier assured me that they would fit. So i checked the thread of the screws and found that they were 6-40UNF but the two tapped holes were M3 ( metric 3mm). Also i checked the rest of the threaded holes on the bed and they were M5 (metric 5mm). Can somebody tell me when singer changed to metric threads ,or is it because my machine is made in Germany? Also i needed to replace the two helical timing gears, so i ordered two new ones from a supplier. But when they came and i tried to fit them they wouldn't fit. So i checked them and found that the new ones were metric; the larger gear had a diameter of 44mm and a 1Module metric gear form, but the old one had a diameter of 43.57mm and a 26DP gear form (imperial). As the gear centers are fixed I couldn't get them to mesh properly so wouldn't fit. Has anybody else had the same problem with the timing gears? Does anybody know if and when singer changed to metric gears? When i contacted the supplier, he said that he had never had problems with these gears before and couldn't explain it. All I can think is that the new batch of gears has been made to the wrong spec,as they are virtually identical. hope somebody can enlighten me thanks
  4. I am adapting the singer 111w155 at the moment to hopefully give it more punching power. I have replaced the clutch motor with a 1Hp servo motor and replaced the motor with a smaller 40mm diameter one. At the moment i am in the process of casting a blank to make a new larger hand wheel 7" diameter and a 6" pulley. This should give the hand-wheel increased momentum and a lower gear ratio, thus more punching power. Has any body else had any experience increasing the size of the hand-wheel/pulley on a singer? I intend to use a number 23 needle (135x 16 TRI DPx16D) with a 20tkt bonded nylon thread to sew through the plywood and leather; do you think this type of needle point is the ideal choice or would a different shape tip be better? Any thoughts?
  5. If you could post some photos of your MG TD door cards it would be very useful to me. also if you could tell me what colour of leather and who supplied it would be handy. I am sorry i can not contact you directly via email,as i don't know how to do it! thanks Ratty (sewing through plywood post)
  6. Many thanks for all of your replies. It does look like i will be able to sew through plywood to make my door card with my singer 111g155. I have attached a couple of photos of the original door card that i wish to copy. As you can see from the photo the plywood is three ply and made from soft wood. The pocket that needs to be sewn is made from 1.5mm chrome leather and the Hidem tape around the perimeter is made from old Rexine (vinyl). I think the moral of the story is, if in doubt try it before taking other peoples opinion as gospel. thanks again ian
  7. I am new to sewing and have just purchased a singer 111g155. I want to make a couple of door cards for a vintage MG Td car, these are made from 1.5mm chrome leather sewn onto 4mm thick plywood. My question is :- do you think the singer 111g155 is man enough to sew through the plywood and also what size of needle and thread would you use? I am thinking of either installing a speed reducer to the clutch motor or machining up a much larger custom flywheel for the machine. I have asked numerous dealers about this and they all say that i need a singer 132k6; but i only need to make two door cards and the rest of the time i will be making seat covers,so i thought the singer 111g155 would be a better overall machine? Your thoughts and comments will be appreciated
