Hello everyone, been awhile since I have posted anything so I thought I would share my gun belt I have been working on from time to time, Has some flaws and still needs lined but it works. Made it specifically for my Scofield. What you think?

Just wondering if anyone has anything they use or thought about using other than leather when making/designing a concept. I find myself being way to protective of my leather and its hindering my creative side, to just be able to say screw it and make it, as we all know that when making a concept they don't always go to plan. Obviously needs to be much cheaper than leather to make it worth it as well, I know vinyl is quite a bit cheaper and I'm sure would work in some cases, but others when I need the rigidness of the leather that wont work I don't think. Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies, I did go ahead and got the machines, Still need to wire in the line as I don't have 220 where I put it. The 12 k I have managed to do some stitching with just messing around with it, The 36 I have not put much time into just yet and have not got it threaded correctly to be able to play with it. I do plan to get a post bed machine and a 5 in one next. Found a couple different suppliers in my area however I found myself a bit lost when trying to decide what all supplies to get, I get lost on what nails to get, and what each one is for, I did order an old book to read and hope that helps but have not got around to reading it, My list of supplies to order are, nails, welt, cork filler, gemming, shanks, leather and rubber soles, glue, glue pot and brushes, and thread for my machines. The machines came with allot of extra things I was not expecting, the line came with lots and lots of sandpapers, and several cutters. Also received about 3 boxes of leather and rubber soles, about 5 boxes of nails, 5 boxes of women shoe heals, even got a set of taps for tap dancing shoes, I still have not gone through it all, but most of the soles are quite old and dry and I don't plan to use them for anything other than maybe some practice, even then they crack when stitching them. I am planning to put in a supply order soon, just not sure what all I should have on hand and really dont want to get to much or not enough of anything.

The second to the left I have seen being used for the cut out of the insole of the shoe, to create a channel to sew your welt onto. at 16:50 of this video he uses it. Hope that helps.

Ok so I been thinking for awhile and really want to get into shoe making/repair, have found a guy selling "Landis shoe finisher vacuum cabinet line. Landis No. 12 Model K outsole stitcher. Landis No. 36 Blake stitcher, two nailers, Shoe jack stand and assorted steel lasts and a heel press. Both the Model 12 and No. 36 were adjusted just a year ago" copied from seller. I'm wondering what some experienced people think of above machines, it would cost me 6k total to purchase and have them shipped to me, is that a good or bad deal? I understand it all depends on quality, so let's say for the sake of it that they all work. I'm more curious as to what I should know before purchasing, such as where to get parts, thread, new sanding components, are the machines known to have issues, and is that to much for all these machines, 1800 is shipping alone. Any advise is greatly appreciated!

Not sure If I have ever posted these, but one is a custom tool holder and the other is my first ever holster, I have don't allot more and will post them later, but everything needs to be resized.

I have not updated my little page in a while so Im just going to dump some pics of a few things I have made recently. First was a little pliers holster I guy wanted, He had one that was designed to be on his left, He wanted one for his right. Think that was my first time to ever basket weave. Next Is a little sheath Ill call it for lack of a better term, Customer wanted something he could toss into his glove box, got a little old glory tooled in, that was actually really hard to do for some reason haha. Next is a dog color and then a couple belts, followed by a few wallets I did for a fund raiser I went ahead and lasered on the t shirt logo for this year on two of them, turned out ok.

Apologies I'm in southwest Kansas, no local leather dealers around that I am aware of. Although I think I'll give rockymountain leather a call and see what I can have done for me.

Trying to find a place to buy super thin veg tan leather, needing it for super thin/light wallet, like what you would buy at wallmart 1/2 Oz more than likely. Can't seem to find anything that thin. I purchased the sk-4 skiver from tech sew and definitely have some learning to do on it so need to find pre thinned until I'm confident enough to make my own. This customer wants the check book style wallet lined as well so really trying to keep the bulk down on this the best I can.

Hello again all! Just wondering if anyone has any decent recommendations on a cheaper sewing machine that will do basically what my techsew 5100 will not do, and that's the thinner leather, I need to be able to sew some super thin leather at times and the 5100 is to aggressive in my opinion for like 1-2 oz leather, I really only want to spend like 200 bucks if possible, but I'm wondering if like the singer 4411 would work, if anyone has experience with that kind of stuff would love to hear from you, I need to be able to sew like thin leather wallets, check book wallets, that kind of stuff, and not saying its not possible with the 5100 but I know the turn out would be better with a slightly less aggressive machine. Is a walking foot needed for that kind of stuff?

Well those didn't turn out to bad.. I need to just do white letters on a fire shield. Basically the black would be white. But I need it to be bright. Just not much of a painter so want to stick with dye if possible.

Just like title says lol had anyone used white leather dye? If so do you have pics of it? Preferably on natural vegtan.

Thank you all for the help and sorry for the faulty link. Customer and I decided that he would be better off purchasing chaps rather than making custom, just more cost effective. I'll get to make a pair someday lol.

Maybe of help actually, what weight/type of leather did you use? The style customer wants are, https://www.teammotorcycle.com/classic-biker-leather-chaps. I just literally don't know where to start on this one. I have road bikes most my life and never ran chaps so I don't have an inside on this one.

Any one have any advise or videos or books, knowledge on making motorcycle chaps? Have a customer asking me to make a pair, that falls out of things I have made lol so any help would be great.

Lol yes sir, Takes a little time to remember things then it becomes natural, everything has to have its place haha.. I guarantee I have tools hanging in no time though. Actually one of the things I still have to figure out is what to do with all my mechanic tools that I have that shop right now... running out of room fast lol

As it sits is 36.5 inches, with casters should be about 38 inches. I have watched several videos and seen lots of great ideas that I will implement later on, Really I want this bench to be able to hold everything while I learn better methods, But want it to be able to hold bulk items like glues, snaps, buckles, rivets, hardware in general. My leather, I plan to build a cabinet style shelf and will roll my leather up around a rod so to speak and hang the rods horizontally, sides and such that is, smaller leather I'm not sure about just yet lol Lol it is fun! I was a mechanic for over 15 years and worked religiously out of drawers lol, that's probable why I am going towards this design actually, every thing has a place and I learn that place and it becomes fluid. However that does not mean I wont change it up someday. I plan to have the bench just as you said, with one side towards wall and three open sides, I was originally going to place it in the middle and 4 open sides but who knows, it will be on casters so I might change it lol. The top I got for it is more like an HDPE at about 1/4 inch thick, I went back to check what it actually is and it does not say, I still have it rolled up, should probably open it and look at it lol. Those are all good ideas for sure, I have two woodworking vises on one of my woodshop benches, they are extremely handy, not sure why I didn't think about incorporating one or so on this bench. Probably cause I'm Kinda rushing it as my sewing machine will be here tomorrow and really want this bench done so I can figure things out by early next week. And the top is white! lol I really wanted a black mat but did not want to spend 500 bucks on one, so I opted for this one.

Think I'm going to go with this design, I will have both empty spots able to have adjustable shelves just did not picture them in, what you all think? Will I regret it?

that's a really good idea! I was going for the hopes on not having to do that with the large bench lol, and may come to that if I cant make this large table work... I have been thinking of making it a bit smaller, however I have a 1300 sqft area I can use if I find leather more than just a hobby, So that again is why I kind of want to make a larger bench as it wont need to be rebuilt/ upgraded later. Plus I build cabinets for a living and I know it well lol. Just don't know what I want on this one. Normally people tell me what they want and I build it. I also want to make it crazy fancy with the trim and work that is not shown on the design as that's just the frosting when the main structure is done lol.

No sir that big box is a garage door, right now, during remodel it will become bay windows. I like your idea of shelfs, however I have found they clutter things in the back, So sliding shelves are also a thought, this is a frameless design so it does not take up much more room doing it that way.

Ok so you may have seen some of my other post that I am wanting to build a small leather workshop, I'm going into it as I did my woodshop and that is the workbench should be the center and focal point, of the shop, so that's what I am currently designing, I would love to hear input from anyone that has more experience, I don't want to regret building something that just wont flow, So I have attached some pics of what I think could be a basic layout, it is all correct dimensions lol , like I said its not a very large space, So I want to be able to store as much as possible in my center bench, Im just wondering with this design what would you put in it and where, I purposely did not add the drawers yet as that's my question what would you do with this empty shell, The center of the one side I want to be able to sit and do things so its going to be empty for my legs like a desk with a small drawer above the thighs for a random things I suppose but I will add holes for adjustable shelves in the event I never sit, either side of that I want drawers, I think, I was thinking to the left have all my sewing equipment as directly behind that will be the area I keep my sewing machine. On the far end I think I want to install a paper roll to quickly pull and layout over the worktop for staining and gluing, speaking of top the entire top 4x8 and will be topped with a cutting mat. all the red is just ideas for layout and nothing is permanent I only include it so you can get a feel to what My plans are as the bench is priority to me also it does not show it but that room is totally boxed in just didn't include the wall next to sewing area, Any ways I would love to hear thoughts for what you would do.
