  1. Yes it does tend to get beat up and raggedy lookin when you pull 30' through sixty or seventy holes.

Wet seaming is using glue (ie; Barge, leather Weld, Contact Cement) to join smaller pieces. take a sharp knife ( I use an Xacto knife) to split one side of the lace on the top and one side on the bottom. Split the difference between the two so the glued piece is as thick as a normal piece. When I hide the seam when doing double loop lace I usually do it when tucking the lace under the cross lace. Make Sense? Would you like photos?

Photos, as they say, are worth a thousand words!! It would be awesome if you have some to post.

  2. not sure on the colors yet. the seat will prolly get one of my tan to black fades. the bike is dark blue with black flames so, purple would not work. he didn't seem to want the LSU to stand out too much so, it may be dark blue and tan.

i finally got the cover on and the tiger done.

hope i did it justice! this was my first real attempt.

finished seat to follow in a couple days.

BTW... as you can see the seat is still wet from molding the cover. i was dying to get some color on the tiger :)

I've watched quite a few comments about the different needles used for sewing Leather, so the following might be of assistance as it is well and truely tested by experience." If sewing Leather of any substance over 2 mm, only use Egg Eyed Harness Needles and a good Harness Awl". They have been developed over many centuries for this purpose. Breakages should be minimul as you should not have too much strain on the Eye. It boils down to having the right size needle for the Thread. If the needle is too small the lump at the eye will cause the eye to break when you try to force it through the hole. The same goes for the Awl Blade, it should match the Needles. Pliers should not be needed, the same goes for finger guards or Gloves. Use the right tools for the Job! Sore fingers are only tempory, start out steady and get your Hands toughened up over a week or so. They will! Piddle on them to speed things up. I've seen many different types of Needles sold as Leather Needle, most have a long eye. There s no way that they should be labeled as Suitable for sewing Leather. Glorified Dressmakers Needles is all they are. Glovers Needles are just that and should be used for light self piercing jobs. They are used singly for sewing and never go through the same hole again with them or you will cut the thread. Harness Needles have a rounded point for this reason, so as to avoid piercing the thread in the Hole. The Awl Blade should be just big enough to allow the threaded Needles to be pased through reasonably smoothly, but not too big. Please have a Happy Day. Kindest Regards. Jim.
Thanks for the advice Jim!!! What is your website address by the way??

  4. So I took my wallet and journal to work yesterday (pictures posted in showoff area) and one of my coworkers order a trifold wallet with a tooled border and his initials. Woot, my first job that is not a friend or family member!!!!! now.. what do I charge???? I am going to use the Tandy kit for the insert and then a piece of Herman and Oak for the shell (outside) piece... He wants just a simple border and then I am going to use letter stamps for his intials. Does $40 seem to steep?

  5. I put a piece of stainless steel between the layers of leather in some of my holsters. The problem that I have is drilling a hole through it. It's a thin piece of strapping, maybe 1/16 inch thick. I just wear out drills. There must be something I'm doing wrong. I dip it in water every so often to keep it cool. I need some advice please.

    Help please.

Are you using metal drill bits and not wood? Maybe try a diamond tipped drill bit?

  6. HEHE, Tom!
