    Thanks! I'm using 3.38mm for the irons. #92 thread for hand sewing (non-waxed). Amazon has some options as well as Sailrite (more cord-like).

    @Hardrada: Interior shots coming soon! @toxo: Not as much as you would think. Given the placement of the two Chicago Screws and weight of the leather, there isn't much much stress on the interior edge of the slot. It has very little room to move. If the keeper went under, I would need to add two more screws to protect the other side of the slot from stretching as well (if that makes sense). @Spyros: Brass definitely looks good (default option). I wanted a nickel version for myself : )

    Good to know, Mike. Thanks! The thread is the only imported component at the moment; the leather and hardware are manufactured in the USA.

    Hey all! I was reading through the info on qualified and non-qualified origin statements and I'm wondering whether or not an item made in the USA with domestic leather would qualify if German thread was being used. It's not really a major part of the product (to a point). To me, the major parts would be the leather and any functional hardware. This example from the FTC website has me curious. Thoughts/experience? "Example: A company produces propane barbecue grills at a plant in Nevada. The product’s major components include the gas valve, burner and aluminum housing, each of which is made in the U.S. The grill’s knobs and tubing are imported from Mexico. An unqualified Made in USA claim is not likely to be deceptive because the knobs and tubing make up a negligible portion of the product’s total manufacturing costs and are insignificant parts of the final product." https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-made-usa-standard

    I didn't; just cranked it out. I'm not sure what I'll do with the edges yet. I understand that latigo edging can be a pain to deal with and I think I remember reading to just bevel them and use edge paint (although I don't mind them as they are). Also, I plan on covering the inside stitch work on the handle - and anything on the side panels - in the same manner as what was done with the lock. Regarding the double loop vs. D-ring, it was just a preference. Although, I'm going back to the rounded double loop as I like it better.

    Alright, I redid the handle and it's much more comfortable. This will work (ignore the accidental stitching detail in hardware loop; I grooved all sides, haha). A few more shots:

    Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I agree about the handle; it's not the most comfortable. There is another design I'm going to try which should also address the stitching concerns there as well (I'll be switching out the current). More pics coming shortly.

    Just wrapped this one up last night. I really like the look, however, the latigo will not work for a final case (too light/flexible). I look forward to tweaking this a little bit and reconstructing out of english bridle.

    Thank you sir! I'll be grabbing a few more colors to play with. However, there is just something about light stitching that I really like (with the exception of black leather).

    Hi all! Here is a prototype case I completed this weekend. Still various improvements to be made before I feel comfortable buying nice leather and selling these, but I think things are coming along quite nicely . Materials Blemished vegetable-tanned leather from Tandy (4-5 oz) Ritza 25 0.8mm waxed thread (hand-stitched) Solid brass hardware from Buckleguy
