I recently received a side of Horween Essex and have experimented with tooling it. It seems to take some tooling, but I am worried about how it will stand up to time. I'm new to this whole thing, so any help would be much appreciated. I have attached some photos. Does anyone here have experience carving/tooling Essex leather? Thanks!

Thanks for the inputs. I have a pony that I am very happy with, so I think I may give the rubber bands and two slabs of wood a try. What a great idea! Thanks again!

I'll be traveling soon and living in a barracks/hotel for a couple of months. I have a stitching pony, but it is a bit bulky to bring with me from Japan to the US. I should have some time on my hand and would like to get some leather working in on my off time. I am interested to know what others use in lieu of a stitching pony when traveling. Or, is there a good travel pony available? Thanks!
