  1. Really great job. I too have watched and been inspired by Nigel's video. I hope I can do it as good as you have. Well done . T
  2. Hi Clare, I have not been into leatherwork very long myself. What I done was bought some 1.2 mm and 3.2 mm veg shoulder from Metropolitan Leather at Thrapston near Kettering. I then made belts ,coffee coasters and guitar straps from the 3.2, and Watch straps, pouches and minimalist wallets with the1.2. All these avail themselves to be stamped, stitched , cut and wet moulded. And because they are smallish , you get plenty of practice. I hope this helps. T

Thank you for your kind comments . The dragon was a practice piece for a laptop bag I made. I was quite happy with the way the dyeing turned out, trying to give the impression of smoke. T

    place mat

Hi All, I have been playing with some stamps, and came up with this place mat . It's a bit of a copy of something I saw on youtube . Having said that, I am actually quite pleased with it. I want to get into more of this sort of thing as I approach retirement. It is made from 3.2mm thick veg shoulder. While I was here I also put up another one I done a while ago. What do you think ?
  5. This is really lovely work. I have made a couple myself but I've not been able to get the bottom corners anywhere near as clean as yours. What's the best way to go about it? T
  6. Nice work. That's a great idea about the gloves. my thumb joints have started aching where I apply pressure to grip the needle. Thanks . T
  7. All really great work. I particularly like the guitar strap and biker tool roll, I will have to try making those myself, though i'm nowhere near your level . T
  8. Really nice work. What type of leather have you made it from? T

Hi All, I have tooled this dragon onto 2mm veg for my daughters laptop cover. She would like it dyed black, but will it stand out in black? I was going to antique it then dye it light brown. What do you all think? Thanks. T
  14. Very nice. What type of leather is that? Did you dye it. T
  15. Hi. I used metropolitan leather near Northampton. Very good people. They will give you all the help you need. T
  16. Hi, I used 1.2 mm veg tan shoulder. Folded it, so as you have grain top and bottom. Also you have a lot of choice of colour.
  17. I would also not skip this stage. You could try a drill to burnish, you could set the spindle speed slower so as not to burn.

    Tooling

Hi All, Thought I would have a go at tooling. Starting with some coasters. I cut squares, then wet and cut a border with a swivel knife. I haven't decided on a pattern yet, but would I wet the leather before tooling or do it dry? Thanks T P's. Assuming liquid will get spilt. what should I seal it with?
  20. Thanks for the comments guys. If I come up with something I'll let you know. T
  21. Hi, Has anyone made there own leather splitting tool? They are so expensive, I can't justify the cost. Thanks. T
  22. I am not religious but Amen to that
  23. Hi, some top quality work there, well done.Strange looking awl though is it comfortable? T
  24. Hi, I use bridle a bit. I dye the edge after bevelling and a light rub dry 400 grit. when dry I go back in with water and burnish. I'm happy with it, T
