  1. It seems like you might have to stretch the leather to get that sort of curve. Is that something that could be done realistically by hand? Thank you!
  2. Okay good to know. So if I were to get say, a Teflon foot, do I need to worry about compatibility, or are they all just the same size? And the same question goes for the needles. Would any leather needle work for me?
  3. Thank you so much for your advice. Is there a specific size of leather needle I need? Second question: Is it possible to put a walking foot on it? Thanks!
  4. I have a Brother 280 from like 1971. Do you think this is upgradable?
  5. Okay I know you are all going to tell me this is a bad idea and that I should just buy a real leather sewing machine, but I don't have the money to make the investment yet, so I wanted to try this first. If I were to try sewing softer oil tanned leather with a normal sewing machine, what should I buy to make it work right? I hear that you can buy walking feet for normal sewing machines along with leather needles for them too. What do you guys think of that idea and what needle/ walking foot should I be looking at? Thank you for your advice! -Cole
  6. Thank you all for your advice! I will get looking!
  7. Thank you for your advice. I will probably be doing stuff more with softer leathers like wallets and not as much with saddles. Does one really need to spend over $1000 to get a good quality sewing machine? Thanks! -Cole
  8. Hello everyone, I am a beginner to leather working. I have done some hand sewing, but I am now considering buying a sewing machine, and I am looking for help knowing what to buy. I am hoping to keep the budget under $500, but I really don't know how much one needs to spend. I would prefer to spend less if that is possible. I was looking at walking foot sewing machines and thinking that would be a good idea, but you tell me if you think it's worth the upgrade. I am thinking of buying something used off of ebay or somewhere, but I wanted to ask the experts first. Thank you for your help! -Cole
