  1. Your right about the bushing. I was originally thinking that spins too. Easier fix than anticipated!
  2. Thanks guys, mostly my thoughts as well. I have brazed and welded cast, to much heat distortion and I don't want to pull the shaft. Not sure the difficulty level but it doesn't look terrible if I have to. My only thing with the JB weld is the pieces don't fit cleanly together. My fear is when I mate the two I will have the cast bore off a bit and wear the steel bushing on the shaft. Metallurgy says that the cast should wear into shape if I'm off a little though. I will clean up the broken piece and see how it goes. Nice fix!
  3. I bought a few machines that fell over and suffered some damage. This Kingmax 0302 looks almost new or has very little use but the casting broke on the front “leg”. See pics. It sews fine and the shaft seems to be solid. Thoughts?
  4. Thanks Greg. I have gone through that sequence many times. I'm afraid I need new feed dogs and feet first (see pics) then I can see where things should be meeting. I was afraid that I would need new parts and checked on them local this am. The needlebar rock frame and pin don't look too bad to me though (see pics). Flat feet and new dog should make things sit much nicer. I'm sure you guys have seen plenty worse for wear parts. Right now if I retard the timing any more the needle passes through the material before the vibrating foot presses it down.
  5. I Have an older Consew 226 with reverse (name plate just says 226) that has been used, maybe well used. It sews fairly well as far as stitching goes but I can't seems to make it run quite straight as the needlebar rock frame moves on the stud. I also need to get this last bit of backfeed taken care of. I have gone through all of the upper end adjustments/eccentrics and this is as close as I can get. The feet and feed dog are worn and I will be replacing those soon, hopefully straightening out the stitch and relieving the rock. What do I try next? Adjusting feed dogs on the rockbar?
  6. And how do these machines compare these say a juki 563? They look to be similar but are they the same class machine? Advantages over one?
  7. Thanks Greg that is perfect and where I found the correct info. What is confusing is when you go to the products page http://www.consew.com/List/Lockstitch-Sewing/Flat-Bed and look at the descriptions they are the same, both say triple feed. Only in the PDF do they explain the difference. Im guessing these machines run up to 207 thread?
  8. Hey everyone, I sew blankets and other things for my day job and would like to get into leather work. My interest is in holsters, belts, and wallets. I have found s ton of helpful info here and find this the best leatherwork site! Frank in CO Colorado Springs
  9. Hey everyone, There is a ton of good info on machines here but I can't seem to find much info on the 254rb. I found a 254rb2 with servo motor not too far from me and looking to sew belts and holsters, 20 oz total st the heaviest, along with canvas. The info I have found from the Consew site is a little confusing and contradictory. The flyer says the 255 is triple feed and 254 is needle drop feed. When you look at the individual machine info they both say walking foot as well. Any light you can shed and advice on the 254rb would be appreciated. Frank in CO
