A year or so back I posted on this forum some pictures of shoe last(sp). I was trying to get an offer on them. I have a great number maybe 2-3,000 (maybe more) that are available now. Another bunch available later as the previous owner of property wants to keep some. He’s the one who acquired them. They were acquired when a shoe factory closed. I know nothing about them so questions pertaining to design or styles, I will not be able to help you. I also have some other leather cutting dies type devices. Hope I can get pictures up. Thanks to all

tried to get photos up but a single photo exceeded the mb limits. Got to figure that one out and try later.

I am looking for several shoe lasts, but boy not that many, I do not even think it would be worth your time to look for 5 or 6 pair. Are the lasts wooden or plastic?

The buckle dies are off Single Monk Strap Loafers, the shoe print shaped dies are mid soles, soles, foot beds or a combination of all three. The cut off shoe print looking dies are for inner sole that your foot goes against. Do you happen to know the name of the factory they come out of, knowing what the factory made may aid you in the sale of the items?

    I'm not sure

#2 is for a shoe sole, I think its a book binders edger

I finally found what #2 tool is

I have a tool like the #2 tool where the wheel height is adjustable. Whether it is used on soles or books, I think the wheel itself is used to mark the leather. I have seen this wheeled tool used, by 2 shoe makers on youtube, to mark the sole of high end shoes like Allen Edmond's. With having an adjustable wheel height/depth of just over 125", I wonder if it is used for something else other than marking the leather? ??

#2 is a Slide Box Seat Wheel Tool for shoe and boot heal patterns. Here is a link:

Does anyone know where I can purchase 5/32” flat, straight buck stitching chisels in 6 to 8 prongs!  All I can find in 3 prong! Thanks

Tim found exactly what you want, 4mm = 5/32, link below.. It states on the page that the guy used the same set to lace the belt, to me the lace holes look angled so I enlarged the picture and they do look angled, am I seeing things things incorrectly or are they angled?

    https://makersleathersupply.com/collections/lacing-and-buckstitching-supplies/products/buckstitch-chisels

I have a 5/32 chisel in two separate style hand presses. One is a cheap auto feed hole punch machine that Tandy sold years ago and a dedicated chisel in a cast iron hand press type machine, but would take a while. I always put a chisel in my Landis 3, set the stitch length and start feeding it around, works great, I remove the shuttle to do this. Sewing machines can be modified to do a lot hole punching type work.

found a Singer 34k11 post bed machine that is said to so very nive and it is very reasonable. I did a search and found several posts on this machine, but no one wrote how they sewed or how they were liked. There were some pictures of machines and two of the machines have bent mainshzfts, like they were dropped on the flywheel or it this an issue with the machines!

Any information would be greatly appreciated

I forgot to mention that the machine is 600 miles away from me. If I decide to go pick it up, I will be traveling across Ohio, part of NY to Pennsylvania,  if anyone needs delivering and can meet me along this route, please let me know. I might as well make it worth my while to go.

Guess I'm the odd man out here -- I think you certainly could use the watch to form over.

Since you say WET FORMING we'll assume you're talking about vegetable tanned leather, and since its a watch we'll assume fairly thin veg tanned. Maybe 2/3 or 3/4?

Cover the watch with plastic wrap... you won't gain enough bulk to matter.

No, you are not the odd man out, I agree with you, put the watch in a sealed plastic baggy or cover it with plastic and use the watch form the leather.

It's a hand-modified last from a mexican manufacturer that my bootmaker friend hooked me up with.

Great looking quality boots! Can you elaborate on your lasts?  Were they wood, plastic, 2 piece, modified cowboy lasts, shoe lasts, munson lasts? What type of sewing machine for the uppers and soles?

    Thanks!

    Hi All,

I'm a newish shoe/boot maker in AZ, and I wanted to introduce myself and see who else out there is making footwear. My style is a moccasin style shoe/boot, that is patterned around making a cast of the person's foot. So, each one is built for the individual's foot. I'm in the process of working on some sandals, and little bags and wallets. I would love to connect with other shoe makers, especially if you're in the Southwest.

Welcome, I know your post is kind of old, but again welcome. I am just now getting into work boot making, but have been doing leatherwork fo several years.

No problems but in any case you want to bring the roller as close to the needle as possible. In best case use a straight stitch needle plate and matching feed dog. A ZZ NP as shown the picture is not ideal - it was just to give a sample for the conversion.

What information are you looking for?

Basic information about the class can be found when looking up the 47w. The 68 describes a subclass / how the machines is equipped. Looks like the 68 subclass is a drop feed straight stitch machine. Parts list says it has a reverse feed - wondering how it works. If you don´t mind please open a new thread and show some good detailed pictures of your machine. Maybe we can merge some information for the future. ;)

I have a 47w68 and the parts manual states that the machine is reversed by the treadle. I really have no idea how the reverse works bc I cannot even find a place to hook a chain and there is no reverse lever. Lol

#2  is a glazing iron.  Used on the welt of shoes.  They come in different widths.  It doesn't leave a groove, it gets heated up and smooths the welt.  The lip rides the edge of the sole so that you don't burn the upper.  There are ones without a lip that are used on the heel.

    Aven,

I knew that it was used to go around the edge of soles, so the wheel just aides the tool by creating less friction as it goes around the edge of the sole? Why do some of these tools have different coarse straight knurl lines on the wheels? Also why does the part of the tool that smooths out the welt have a small edge landing, almost like the edge guide has an edge guide?

I have seen these tools with different wheels patterns (more like knurlings) on them and also have seen them heated and used as decorative markings on the soles of shoes inbetween the stitching and edge of the sole, which is not be the proper use of the tool.

    Thanks,

ts a long shot, but Im looking for parts, pieces or complete ACME stapling machines like these....Thanks for your help.  Ray  801-494-9852

    Ray,

I know this is an old post, but did you find what you needed? I think I have the model you are looking for.

I of course cannot test this on all above mentioned (and unmentioned) machines - I just wanted to give an idea of how it "could work".

As a sample - this is a 107W1 - this machine has a closed foot pressure screw and you have to shorten the presser foot bar and adjust the foot bar bushing.

Conclusion - if you don´t like / dare tinkering on your machine - "Don´t do this at home" ! I guess you know what I mean.... ;)

So how did your machine sew with this adapter? I have a singer 111w100 I may dig out and use to sew some shoe uppers, if not I may go ahead and use my cylinder arm 47w68 that I put a roller foot on. I have a Singer 43-5 that has a square presser foot vibrating foot that I would like to put a roller foot on as well, I have found a roller foot for a  Singer11-33 that has a square pressure foot vibrating bar, but I think the bar is larger than the 43-5 which is the same size bar as a Singer 16 serious. Did you catch all that? Lol

    Thank you!

  14.   I have cut v belts and put them back together with hog rings that have held up for a very long time to save from buying a belt. Building a jackshaft, plus buying a belt can really add up.

I wish I could help you on shaft size, I really think it is 1/2" but can't bet on it since it is made in japan, so it may be 13mm. Maybe Bob will chime in soon.
