Not really for storage, just to reinforce flap and cover up the snap button top.

the only true hand made leather items were made by the Indians who killed, tanned and sewn the skin with the aid of ZERO machines
they made everything from the knives to the needles. Machines were not involved
To be totally handmade they would have had to have killed the deer by hand ie: throttled it.

I love the rustic look.

Very nice, I especially like the stippled background around the deer stamp.

Very nice work. I especially like your clever design for the closure strap, it looks a lot cleaner than using a snap or Sam Brown button.

Thanks. Just regular beveling but a little heavier than I wanted.

did you have to use any stiffener material or is that 9oz firm enough to keep everything straight?
Thanks, no stiffener used. The 9 oz works fine. I should have mentioned that the the spline is two pieces of 2-3oz glued back to back which makes it the equivalent of 4-6 oz.

Very nice work! The only thing I would have done differently would be to have used some type of rawhide colored sinew material for the lacing. It's only my opinion but I think the white strip takes away from your excellent art work.

Chris
I like using Eco-Flo. Most colors turn out well and set pretty well. I do put a coat of Resoline finish on for insurance.

Edged burnished up nicely just using diluted dye and wooden burnisher.

Very nice! I really like your idea of using the offset pen rings as a closure device when a pen is installed.
Basket Weave

I finally tried out the basket weave technique using a swivel knife and beveler, and applied it to a note pad folder. I used 4-5 ox veg-tan, Tandy eco-flo stain ( bordeaux) and 6.mm tiger thread in Havana Cigar. I think it turned out fairly well for the first attempt.
