  1. Muzzleblast, I sure appreciate the gratitude, but thanks should go to CampbellRandall and gtwister09, who were able to provide the great info, as well as TwinOaks for getting it pinned. But for what it's worth, I'm glad my question was useful to some folks. -Adam
  2. I have a Ring's Blue Gun- 4.25" 1911 Commander (cocked & locked), that i'm looking to trade for the same model but with hammer down/safety off, in similar condition. It's in great shape. Lines are crisp. It does have dye markings on it (see pics). It does not have the blue top coat, so no blue smudges on your holster. Also, the front site has been ground off, and a notch cut in the rear site to allow for a dowel rod to be nested for sight channel forming. Sorry, not interested in selling it, or any other trades except the previously mentioned Ring's Commander.
  3. Ha! Unfortunately I can't read Morse code either, but it's nice to know it can do it if I ever need to send a coded message in leather.. Once again, Cobra Steve to the rescue. I took some video of the problem and sent em' off to Steve. After a couple of phone calls and pictures, he fixed me right up. The problem turned out to be a single loose screw just under the stitch length adjustment lever on the inside. Tightened it up and ta-da! Stitching like a brand new machine again. Thanks much, Steve!
  4. Hey Guys, As the title suggests, I'm having a bit of trouble and wanted to run it by the collective wisdom here and see if you all have any ideas. I had just changed the needle yesterday and was getting ready to stitch a belt, and it seems I didn't fully tighten the needle in the needle bar. I was manually turning the flywheel to make the fist couple of stitches, luckily, because the needle was yanked out and became kinda wedged in the shuttle area. After getting the needle out, I took apart the shuttle/bobbin/race and inspected it for damage or burs. I saw and felt nothing, so put everything back together and did a few test stitch lines. This is where I noticed a problem. It's apparent something is out of whack. It starts out ok for about 10 stitches or so, but then the stitch spacing becomes extremely inconsistent. It seems that the machine isn't properly advancing the leather, sometimes even stitching in the same hole twice. Makes no difference if it's threaded or not. I've attached a couple of photos to show you what I mean. I've also noticed the stitch hole spacing seems to be effected by how fast the machine is running. Not sure if it's pertinent or not, but I'm running it with the standard plate/ feed dog set-up. Maybe some kind of timing issue? It seems a call to Cobra Steve might be in order here, but I though I'd also run it by you guys and see if anyone might have a clue what's going on, or experienced anything like this before.
  5. . Was really hoping for something other than Duncan's aluminum guns, but so far, no luck.
  6. Ben, Thanks so much for sharing that! VERY thorough compilation. -Adam.
  7. Hey Guys, I'm trying to get my hands on a dummy gun for the H&K P7 PSP. IF you have one you're looking to sell, shoot me a PM and I'll gladly take it off your hands. Thanks! -Adam
  8. Thanks, Dan! That is exactly what I was looking for. Much appreciated! -Adam
  9. I know this is a long shot, but does anybody have any examples (or any advice on where I can find examples) of stitches made with a 794 spear point needle? I'm curious to see how they look when compared to the 794 triangle points. Thanks! -Adam
  10. The tab on the inside of the female snap should be oriented @ 6 o'clock, and the tab on the outside that "digs" into the leather should be @ 12 o'clock (if looking at your belt loop the way it would sit when attached to your belt, assuming the loops snap above your belt). Hopefully this makes some sense to you. If not, let me know and I'll try to post a picture.
  11. Your original photo is an "Uncle Lou" by John Ralston at 5 Shot leather, named after Lou Alessi. While I've never tried that style, they seem like they would allow for a lower riding holster. -Adam
  12. Great looking holster combo Jeff. Did you by chance used to do highpower rifle matches at Benchrest Gun club? BTW
  13. I was wondering how thick it was as well. It says it's great for belts, and that it cuts easily, so I would guess it's relatively thin. Hidecrafter also has what I assume is the same thing for a little bit cheaper- http://www.hidecrafter.com/hci/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1096&category_id=60&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=35
  14. Hey Eric, not sure if this will work, but have been thinking about trying it out. http://www.zackwhite.com/product.php?productid=16811&cat=0&page=1
  15. You can get the pint sizes at Turtlefeathers. They ship pretty darn quick too.
  16. Ha! It's funny you bring that up, I did the exact same thing just this afternoon. -Adam
  17. I've been using the Quick change airbrush kit for my sealer application and for evening out my dyeing for close to a year now with no real complaints. I do wish the bottles were glass instead of plastic, but for that price it does the job so I can't complain too much:) Oh, and -Adam
  18. Thanks for the tips, and the heads up on the skiving issue. I'm looking forward to some experimenting. -Adam
  19. I actually thought the same thing about the first holster. I've been REALLY itching to start doing some exotic trim, but I've been holding off because I read somewhere that sometimes it's pretty common to have to do some significant skiving (especially ostrich) to even out the skin before glueing and sewing it to the backing leather. Is that pretty accurate? I'm not really set up to do any major skiving, and wasn't sure if the small hand version would do the job. What a generous offer! PM sent -Adam
  20. That's an interesting idea. I'll have to give that one a try down the road. Thanks for the suggestion, Jeff. -Adam
  21. Ya know, I never thought of that. I just wonder if the "edge" of the stiffener would start to show through on the leather eventually. Hmmm... something for me to think about. I do so love trying new stuff. -Adam
