  9. I make mine like your dad with sheets, easier to clean that way.. With enought blankets I've kept warm with it twenty below in the morning.

  11. I have a double rigged that has the front rigging far enough forward that when I cinch up the cantle kicks up in the air. I would like to put together a flat plate rigging for it placing the ring at about 3/4. My question is: How involved would this be? How far would I have to tear it down. I'd like to do it myself since I always wanted to build my own saddle (I always considered saddle making to be the top rung of leatherworking so to speak)

    Birds Eye Braid

Hopefully I remember this correctly. If, for instance, you want a red braid with blue eyes all the strings in your left hand would be red. In you right hand the colors, begining at the top, would be ordered red, blue, red, blue, red, blue for twelve strands, two more following the same pattern for sixteen strands. Two strands in a row are worked from each side before moving to the other side, following the patterns in the post you linked. Just to prevent confusion in that post when I said right I didn't mean to move strands right, I was refering to which hand they are in.
  13. I was mistaken it is on the Western Horseman website and the most strands are towards the loop. http://www.westernhorseman.com/index.php/gear-guide/article/493-la-pialada.html
  14. In the February issue of Western Horseman magazine there was an article that mentioned that the gaucho used a reata like that and their reasoning for it was that the rope would tend to break in so many feet from the Hondo so that distance (can't remember it) was four plait and replace able. Then further back their was more strands in the braid.
  15. I ended up using 16 strands. It worked out alright.
  16. Sorry no camera. (that works) I know the 12 plait that is: Right, under 3, over 3: Right, Under 2, Over 2, Under 2: then Left, Under 3, over 3: Left, Under 3, Over 3. This works because 6 is divisable by both 3 and 2 so I think perhaps I can get a similiar affect in 16 plait by following the pattern, Right, Under 4, Over 4: Right, Over 2, Under 2, Over 2, Under 2: then Left, Under 4, Over 4: Left, Under 4, Over 4. But will have to try it and see. For 18 Plait I can't figure anything unless maybe using a 9 and 3 pattern.
