  1. Veg tan hardens when you wet form. It's perfectly normal. You need to oil it to bring life back into it. I recommend skidmore's leather cream, aussie leather conditioner, or neetsfoot oil.
  2. I appreciate the tip. I could have sworn I replied back but for whatever reason, it didn't post. I ended up getting drunk on bourbon last night and buying the BG press, 3 dies, and some more hardware lol. Don't drink an tool shop I guess. I have no need for putting snaps into hard to reach areas on a project as I pretty exclusive make sheaths, wallets, and other smaller items. If I ever have the need, your idea sounds great and will most likely do the same. I'm probably gonna buy a couple dies from both kamsnaps and snapstools to see if they truly fit. Will report back when I know. I'm still pretty certain that BG's measurements are to allow for tolerances since the standard for metric is 8mm M8 threads. It's pretty dang close. If they don't work, i'll only be out about $20.
  3. Right. The reason I'm asking is because that's basically 8mm m8 thread from my understanding but I think the small difference is for tolerances. Kamsnaps dies are 8mm m8 as advertised. I'm hoping someone has a BG press and tried other brand 8mm m8 top threaded dies to see if they fit. I think that's the standard metric die fit which in under the impression BG's press is as well.
  4. Hey all. I'm looking at getting a hand press for ligne 24, 20 and spring snaps. I've seen kamsnaps has a press DK93 that uses a 8mm m8 thread top die with a 19mm bottom nonthreaded die. Buckleguy uses something very very close per their spec but I figure that's for tolerances. I'm thinking about getting the kamsnaps press (almost 1/3 the price) with the buckleguy dies (double the price) because the press seems to be the same but the BG dies look to be great quality like usual. Can anyone confirm if the BG dies will fit in the kamsnaps hand press? Specifically the DK93 (with adapter). I did a search but haven't seen if anyone has confirmed it. Thanks!
  5. Has anyone ever tried using uniters or giardini gloss top coat on other brand edge paints? I use Vernis and love it but I find the wax finish for gloss doesn't last very long. Any other recommendations are appreciated as well!
  6. That's what I do with ritza because it's thick enough. I'm having a hell of a time with thinner thread like vinymo #8. It's tiny thread
  7. I pull by the thread but when you're using a fine thread like .4 or .5, it can still work it's way out easily. Especially on a long run of stitching. I'm going to try Gatos method. If that doesn't work, I'll give the no tying method a go. I appreciate the ideas to all that answered!
  8. Not to be rude but how the heck are you able to keep the thread on the needle . Both threads come right off when working at any decent speed. Especially with vinymo MBT because it doesn't have a thick wax coating like tiger thread.
  9. Hey all. I'm using size 004 JJ saddlers harness needles and #8 Vinymo MBT thread. Since I can't tie it on like you would ritza25 by piercing the thread (or maybe you can and I'm just awful), I've been using a clinch knot. It works but it doesn't give the smallest knot. Is there a better way?
  10. Afternoon all. I was wondering if anyone knew the color of Fenice Matte Plus that closest matches fiebings pro dye in saddle tan? I was looking at walnut but it looks a little lighter.
  11. Thanks for your feedback. I might try a few brands based on who says they like what to try to find what I will like. I have heard Vernis 600 is great as well. Will definitely try those two and probably throw fenice into the equation as well.
  12. Hey all. I'm looking for recommendations on edge paint that can be heated. I have a heat creaser that has an adjustable temperature from 140°F to 900°F. Right now I use pro dye and tokonole on natural veg tan and the result is great but I'm wanting to experiment for the best shine on chrome tan. Thanks!
  13. 1/2", 3/4", and 1" oblong punches. Various things.
  14. Right. That's what I'm worried about lol. I appreciate the help.
  15. Would either of you happen to have the measurements of the oblong cutters? Metric or standard is fine with me.
  16. I appreciate the link. The issue is, they look yhr same as what's offered on Amazon, bad welds with uneven cutting edges, but I won't cut the rope yet. I'll give it a browse and see if there are indeed good ones hidden amongst the list lol.
  17. Good morning all! I'm looking for a set of oblong punches that don't utilize a handle. Kind of like cookie cutters. I've always just punched two round holes then connected them with an xacto until recently when i bought a weaver master tool oblong. The handle though is offset and can sometimes make a straight punch challenging for me. I recently watched a video by hahns atelier on youtube and he used punches that don't have handles exactly like I'm describing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no real required budget and want something of quality and durability. Buy once, cry once. Thanks!
