  1. This is my second belt and wallet, so to get some more practice I offered to make a belt for my buddy. I decided to make him a matching wallet to go with it. I used chicago screws instead of rivets on this one ( thanks for the recommendation Dwight) anyway let me know what you think.

  2. I got a reply from Weaver.

"Thank you for your email.  Yes, we do still offer sharpening services for the Master Tool Punches.  You can just send the punch in along with a note that you would like to have it sharpened and your contact information.  Once the service is complete, they will reach out for payment and ship the item back."

So for anyone interested they still offer a sharpening service.

I’d call Weaver directly and ask if they still resharpen their own punches. They have cut back on some things with the ownership changes. I don’t get catalogs from them anymore so have nothing recent .

I'll give them a call on Tuesday and report back.

I use one of those. The first one broke the frame where it meets the handle. The second one (replaced with no issues) has held up much better.  Your's does look uneven. I'd try for a replacement.  I put mine on the buffing wheel from time to time.

The problem is I didn't buy it directly from weaver. I bought it online from a second party seller. I got it almost half off, that seemed like a great deal. However I didn't buy it from weaver so I dont expect any help from them through warranty.

Really nice work on the stamping ! I like the way you used the border stamps. The back looks every bit as nice as the front. Nice work!

I like the work, scared of all that blade

    Thanks!

That one's only 2-3/4" across, just the right size. Besides, those blades don't getcha much once you get used to them. Getting used to them can be a challenge, though...

Very nice job on the sheath. As for the blade size, I made a small round knife from a worn out half-round blade from my multi-tool (so it's about the same size as yours but a bit thinner) and I find it a nice size to use.

It's a great size and knife. I just need more time behind it. I'm planning on using it a lot on my net few projects so I can get more comfortable with it.

Went to order that knife this morning. Dang it! Wouldn't you know it was sold out. Sold out over night. Dang it.

Diesel Tech, keep checking back his inventory seems to be resupplied fairly quickly. I had the same thing happen a while back with his buck stitching chisels.

Looks good. I like the way it fits under the welt.

Thank you. I have seen it done before and always liked the idea. I will say its very satisfying sliding it in the sheath and snapping the snap.

Thanks very much. I have been looking for a small head knife & that is perfect for me.

    Thanks again.

Diesel Tech,  it's a great knife, very sharp from makers. I'm sure my complaints are my lack of experience with it.

ETA: sorry I screwed up the quote.

  6. I bought a weaver punch online for a great deal. After receiving it I found out why. Its dull it takes a a ton of pounding to punch through 8oz leather. Nothing like the other punches I've bought directly from weaver. The edge also looks uneven again not so with my other weaver punches. I've tried stroping but no luck and sharpening something like this is out of my wheelhouse. I know weaver used to have a sharpening service but I can't find any information on that. Does anyone know who I can send this to?

A few pictures to show the edge

Nice work but who made it? the makers name has been photo cropped out.

I did lol. I just do this as a hobby and my wife got me the makers mark for Christmas. It has my real name on it and call me paranoid ( I probably am over paranoid) I dont want my real name on a public forum.

Nice looking sheath! Love the tool work.

May I ask, what brand is your leather knife?

    Thanks.

Thanks. The knife is the small round knife makers leather supply sells. I'm no expert (this is my first round knife) and I know I need more time using it. This particular knife doesn't feel all that comfortable. This was the only knife I used for this project , I want to get proficient with it. If I could go back I'd order a larger knife. This one is so small ive ended up cutting myself a few times because my fingers are so close to end of the blade.

Well practice butterfly #2 with a super shene resist. I think it looks better. Lol too bad i cant merge parts for 1butterfly to the other or vice versa.

I'm thinking for my 1st two figure carvings, they are not overly bad.

    phpqZWhTUAM.jpg

That looks great! Alot smoother and cleaner. Again not a expert but I think practicing a few times before the actual project makes a world of difference. I'd be very happy with what you have done there.

PS: my wife was looking at my screen as I was typing and said you did a great job.

Yeah I started buying some Barry King tools here & there. I might buy his #2 starter set, think its 18 tools total. BK curved thumb print set I'm starting to like.

I got mostly high end stamps, lmao probably more then I need. But I'm starting to find out the stamps got uses in other spots.

My 2nd butterfly looks better, I think. I'm doing a super shene resist on it. I'll post some follow up pics 2mrow.

It stopped raining so I went out and looked. I have 00, 0, 1, 2. The 00 and 1 are the ones I use the most. The 2 is nice for borders but I use a push beveler for that now.

Thanks RockRash I appreciate the comment & encouragement.

I did swivel cut another 1 & the swivel cuts look better. I Also think a set of steep angle bevelers would help. I'll practice some more. Lmao I guess at least it somewhat resembles a butterfly.

I think it looks good just needs refinement. I'll be honest the the biggest improvement to my tooling was after I bought a set of Barry King bevelers. Practice with them and you will never go back to craft tool bevelers. They aren't labeled but I'll go out in the morning and tell you the numbers I use most. I started messing around with this about a year ago and the bevelers are by far my favorite tools.

Looks awesome! I love it. Looks professional to me. Lol the tyvek has gotten me a couple times to.

    Great job!

Thanks! I really had fun with this. I started it back in October but making Christmas gifts for everyone took priority. I'm happy to have finally finished it.

Looks good! Better than I could do. Lol I would need a tracing pattern.

Are them letters swivel knife cut & then beveled? If so I would say they look fairly good to for just picking up the tools.

Well a project like this speaks from the heart & should win her over! Or at least make her lean towards him more.

    Congrats on the great work.

He drew up the bear up himself off a picture he found on line. I showed him how to transfer it to leather. He did use a swivle knife and beveler to do the letters. He has 4 or 5 hours of practice on this piece of leather. He's on Christmas break so he plans to get out tomorrow and get on practicing knife work. He wants to tool the wallet Thursday. Thanks for the kind words he will appreciate the encouragement.

ETA he go his license a while ago and will be off probation next month he plans to ask her to dinner and bowling once he can legally drive her. I hope he makes some headway with this gift.

  14. Not me but my son. He's 17 and wanted to make a wallet as a Christmas gift for a girl he likes at school. He wants to put her name on it and a teddy bear. I gave him some instruction and let him play around with my tools. He still has a way to go but I think he can pull it off before Christmas. All the leather is ready to tool and assemble. I'm proud of him for spending hours practicing and wanted to show off his work. The letters are really rough but he knows that. The bears are numbered and I think he is definitely getting better. He's in the garage now pounding away. I'll post the progress in the next few days.
