I have no experience in launch my business online. please give me some advice to help me to get more followers on Instagram. I dont even know if I could post my Instagram address here tho. so please if you like my handmade products. please let me know. Thank you very much. My Instagram name is Jones_leather_bespoke
  2. Another kukuri sheath I’m knocking out. No turtle this time tho. Turtled out for a minute. Got gator on this one. Cut and dyed the lace myself. In 34 years I’ve never bought lace. That 5$ lace maker was a hell of an investment… almost done.
  3. Used an old pattern from my grandpas days at Tandy to build a gun belt for a customer. I wasn’t digging the color he chose, but once done it’s not bad. He was happy so I’m happy.
  4. First time trying alligator, ordered an extra small piece and I think it turned out ok. I hope.
  5. Hello everyone, new to the forum. Thank you moderators for letting me join. We are a new start up company located in South Florida specializing in luxury alligator products. Once started we will be launching our own brand of alligator products. I'm interested in hiring artisans having experience in exotic leathers especially alligator. We will be producing products from money clips and key fobs all the way to carry on luggage and golf bags. Great opportunity for the right individuals looking to get into the ground floor of a great start up company. Must be willing to relocate to Sunny South Florida. If interested please send e-mail to huntsfla@aol.com. This account has anti spam software so we will be responding from a different account. Thanks everyone for you time.
  6. Hi, I wanted to make a mask from some alligator/crocodile hide and I was hoping to wet form it around a form. Is this possible has anyone tried wet forming it? Thank you
  7. I closed my handbag business a few years ago, and find I still have a lot of stuff hanging around. I'm not asking much for it- just don't want it to go to the dump! What I have includes a pile of lizard skins, turkey feet, cowboy boot tops, some 1940s alligator pieces, sting rays, and more that I will find as I dig it all out. I can post some photos if there's some interest... Here's a photo of what I made with the boot tops, so you can see what they are like. I have about 30 pounds of them
  8. Hi everyone, This is my first post here on the forum, so I apologize if I didn’t put this in the right place. Sorry for the length, I just want to give all the info I can to get the best advice. Thanks in advance for your time! I recently picked up a side of matte-ish black Horween Essex for a custom tote order. The tote was made and shipped and I started using the rest of the side for a crossbody bag with an alligator flap. I checked in yesterday with the tote customer to make sure she was happy and she said she was, but she’d noticed that the color was rubbing off on her white pants. She didn’t have this problem with her first tote from me last year and I’ve never had this problem in the 3 years I’ve been working with Essex so I was surprised. Out of curiosity, I went over to the alligator and Essex bag that I just finished up and rubbed it with a scrap of light colored T-shirt and sure enough quite a bit of color came off. Obviously, I’m concerned that not only does a customer have a tote that’s leaving color on her clothes, but in the meantime I have just finished an expensive, fairly time consuming hand-stitched bag (my first using alligator) that’ll be rubbing on someone’s shoulder and hip. I can’t have it leaving big black marks on someone’s clothes. I wouldn’t even try and sell it if I know that’s a possibility. Now that the bag is done, what can I do to try and seal it? The edges are all painted with Vernis edge paint so I’m nervous about getting any kind of solvent on them and having that turn into a big mess. I tried buffing the whole bag with a soft cloth to remove excess color, but the color transfer hasn’t stopped. I thought about using Resolene, but I’m concerned about (a) being able to apply it consistently and not having it gum up since it’s all finished and 3-D and not an easy flat surface and (b) won’t it make the matte black really look shiny and plastic-y? I liked the way it looked before with the soft finish. It made the gray alligator flap pop. Lastly, does it work well on leathers with soft-medium tempers. I’ve used it on heavy veg tan work but not this kind of thing. I can’t afford to experiment with stuff that “might” work, because if it works on a flat scrap and not on the finished 3-D bag, the whole thing’s wasted. Is there any way to salvage it? I loved the way it turned out and would really appreciate any advice. I’d also like to be able to help the tote customer so she’s not stuck with a bag that ruins her clothes. She’s in a different state, so if you have a product in mind that she could buy separately and apply as a non leather worker that’s even better. Thanks again! -Hannah
  9. Just moved to Toronto from the US recently and have been looking for a source for exotic leathers, specifically alligator/croc/python. Many online retailers from the US will not ship to Canada unless you place a large order due to all the paperwork involved. Does anyone know of an exotic leather supplier already in Canada, or of a supplier overseas who will deal in small quantities? Thanks in advance.
  10. I got some alligator scraps on eBay with the intent of making a few small items. I also got some alligator printed leather from Tandy and took a crack at that. Can you guess which one is the real gator? I think they came out pretty nice for a newbie. I can't decide what friend i'm going to gift these to.
  11. I've been tinkering with my Landis splitter trying to get it to split soft French goat. It's hit or miss but it worked well enough yesterday to do a fully lined 3 pocket cardholder. I hand skived the alligator to thin it down some and lined them with the .5mm blue goat. The larger blue goat pieces are split and lined with gray Split French goat from Talas Online. It's saddle stitched with Lin Cable, pricked with a Blanchard 9 iron. Edges are painted with Fenice. It measures 4.25 x 2.75.
  12. It started as a damascus blade blank from a local knife show (1095 & 15n20), 5" blade: Then I added leather scales (horse butt?): Then wrapped in alligator and fastened the scales, and started the sheath with 5.5oz leather: And N52 magnets: I designed the sheath so the knife could fit in facing either direction: Wrapped in alligator: And stitched together, attatch strap, and done: The strap is attached with a chicago screw and it swivels, so I can wear it IWB or OWB. Yes, it took a very long time, but if I did it again it would be much quicker next time, now that I have some clue what I'm doing. This was my first knife handle, and first sheath.
  13. This morning I thought I would take pictures as I make a new watch strap for my Samsung Smart watch. Unfortunately, my phone takes 10mb pictures and after emailing them to myself, I have to move them into photoshop and decrease them in size, which is taking quite a bit of time. The whole process should take between 4 and 6 hours for one of these. However, I don't think I'll hit that mark today. I'll keep you posted.
  14. Here are some of the holsters I've done over the years. As I go through and resize my pictures, I'll add more.
  15. I have the below 13 skins for sale. I'm selling them as a lot- not individually. They are each about 28" long, 2"-3" wide. In addition to the full skins I'll throw in the scrap pile. $85+ shipping - email me if you'd like 'em. Rachael@heavyleathernyc.com

  17. We have recently got into making watch rolls. I actually got to take a few pictures during the build so I wanted to share. Here is a link to a video of one of the rolls. https://www.instagram.com/p/BSMGbPNDULH
  18. Working on an alligator watch roll for a customer. Still in progress, but will post as I go along.
  19. Genuine Gator (still has the hunting tag attached to the skins). Whoever tanned and finished this material did a great job, most of it is usable and feels like butter, cuts well and really easy to work with. I have 4 skins in the shop and three are like this one, the other not so much, stiff, hard to cut, very little usable. A good tannery/finisher is imperative for working with this stuff. Interior is glazed pigskin, and a faille cloth liner on the wallet back. Chief

  21. Hello, I am seeking a capable craftsman to make high quality alligator leather phone case wallets to sell at my high end retail location in Los Angeles.
  22. I was recently asked by a friend to make him something with alligator skin. I've never worked with this material before, but I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful it can look blended in with other projects. Not sure if you would agree, but I thought I'd share some photos of the bag in case anyone else is interested in getting creative with exotic skins like alligator. Also the skin I used in this piece is from a fresh water alligator's tail piece. I got some of my design ideas from a Japanese artists piece and some of my own experimentation.
