Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I posted anything, so I figured I'd do a quick update while the coffee is brewing. This is just something I wanted to do. I've been doing a lot of "production" type stuff and I needed to take a break and do something that would challenge my artistic side. I like it and I look forward to making more art pieces. This is a mouse pad I made for a Jewish friend. Happy Hanukkah! A fun journal cover I made. I've been watching a ton of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones lately. Does it show? Simple folding money clip/wallet. A nice dress belt. An ex-serviceman contacted me about making this wallet for him. I was really excited to do it, told him not to worry about a deposit, and got after it. I tried to ask him what he wanted in the banner and he never got back to me. After it was finished, he never got back to me. Still haven't heard from him. Valuable lesson learned. A Harley belt I did for a co-worker. The eagle was done with mostly a modeling tool. It was my first time using one and now I realize how indispensable they are. My pups Christmas gift. My brothers Christmas gift. The knife was something my late father gave him. Making this belt and sheath was really special for me. A couple more of the folding wallet money clips. These are also special to me. They are two of six items ordered from me to be carried in a local retail boutique. First time my stuff is being carried in a store. And now I'm in the market for a sewing machine. Business has really picked up and I'm struggling to keep up with orders and work a full time job. A sewing machine would really help me out and broaden my horizons a bit too. I'd love to start doing costumes and bags. Any suggestions? Any helpful hints on my work? Thanks for looking!!

Hi fellow Leather Workers!! I have a question. I am stumped on the type of lace patter/technique this belt is adorned with. I have looked through my Stohlman and Baird books thoroughly. I am not able to quite match it with any of the techniques and types listed. Any feedback, help, questions, directions will be so gratefully appreciated. This is a refurb project to be delivered by Christmas. Thank you for your guidance and help. -Justin L.

Hi all, i'm starting in leather, i love many works from here and others sites, this is initially just for hobbie, but who knows !! ?? i bought some tools, dyes, edge kotes, etc this is my very first try for a belt (thinking in christmas) I missed some details in the edge near the buckle my problems came with the dyes, when i applied they look good, but is too tight, when i fold for both sides, get some wrinkles and the leather dyed get cracks how can i fix that? maybe with a deeper dying process? but dying i use fiebings products and applied with wool daubers Cheers

I have a good amount of veg tanned pig belly leather and I want to make some belts. I know it is frowned upon due to the natural stretching of a belly but is it completely impossible? The reason I ask is college kid budget concerns. Bonus question, I am thinking about buying an australian strander for making a braided belt. Worth it or should I just cut by hand? Thank you.

I know there are as many ways to make a belt as there are belt makers, but here is my take. A detailed photographed tutorial on the steps I take and why... http://www.mrlentz.c...a-leather-belt/

I made a belt and everything is great besides the underside. How do I tame the "fuzzyness" I would like it to be as smooth as possible and to stay that way. Any tips are appreciated

Hello Leatherworker community! I'd like to make a rugid and tough belt. Simple and traditional looking belt. Something like this image attached. Where do I buy leather for this in bulk? What sort of weight/thickness do you recommend? How do I cut? (How do I make it basically) If someone can direct me towards a good step by step forum post or website that would help too. How would I stain or finish it? Any recommended market/website to purchase the items above? What tools do I buy? Many questions and many belts to be made... -Kim

I am in central North Carolina and would like to hire someone for a belt and matching hip quiver project. I have attached a few pictures of the general style of quiver I am looking for. I can have someone draw a specific design and provide that to you for production or I can collaborate with you. Whatever works with your skillset. The base color will likely be black and a secondary color, red. I'd like the back of the belt to read, In God We Trust. And you can probably tell from the attched pictures that the style is more modern vs. western or traditional. I can pay through PayPal or via check and would like to start right away. I look forward to hearing from you.

I'm looking to make some dog collars with a fat center and narrow ends, like in this picture. I am wondering how to get the end narrowed. I cut my own straps from full hides using the Tandy Strap Cutter (http://www.tandyleat...er-3080-00.aspx). I know there must be a reasonably easy way to do it since it is so commonly done. Any help would be appreciated!

All right, so I made a belt recently that I used mahogany antique stain on. I applied using a damp sponge and wiped off using another damp sponge as directed. Didn't get much of an antique effect unfortunately. Before, when I used antique stain, I used a dry wool dauber and I believe I wiped off using a dry cotton cloth, which is completely different than the directions, but gave a great antique effect. What am I supposed to be doing?

Howdy, I'm getting married this summer and I would like to give my groomsmen custom name belts. Specifically, I'm looking for the fairly simple vintage-y western style belts that were popular in the 70's and 80's. Oak leaves or dogwood with white lacing. See pictures below. I was hoping to not spend much over $50 per belt. I used to be able to order these from my local western shop but no one and no companies seem to be making these any more. I have found a few folks online but they are making them a bit more fancy and asking pretty steep prices. If anyone is capable and interested in this job, I am VERY serious and ready to order them! :D Thanks for your time. Rick

I heard there was someone around here who refurbishes old tools. I'm starting horsehide belts and I need everything... punches, belt end die cutter, hole punch, bevel tool, burnisher, stamps, etc. I also would like to know where you guys buy finishes in bulk. If anyone knows a quality horsehide leather supplier suitable for belts (I have no idea what to look for in belt leather...) Feel free to post or pm me.

Here is a picture of a belt I made for my Dad. I've made a few others, but none of them looked this good. I've had such a hard time figuring out how to do edges and dye. But thanks to this website and these forums, and all the nice people who've answered tons of my questions, it's looking much better. So thank you!!! I have a long way to go but I've learned a ton getting here and that's so rewarding!!!

Hey everyone! I have really enjoyed reading this forum lately. Judging by the posts I've read, you all really know what you are talking about and can definitely help me answer this question. I just started making my first belt today. My friend asked me to make on for him. I cut it from an 8-9 oz. double shoulder and am pleased with the strip that I cut. I am just not sure how long the strip should be. My friend has a 29 inch waist. Is there a special method used to size belts? Can anyone help me? Thanks so much. Adam.
