Hi guys, I have been a member of the group for a while and have admired everyone's work here, I am reluctant to show my own offerings but decided to take the plunge. I have been working for a couple of weeks on this English Style Briefcase, I live in the Philippines so sometimes products are difficult to get shipped here and things take longer waiting for accessories etc. The case is made of Veg tan leather with all the fittings being solid brass with a brass lock from Amiet, it has a key holder, address tag and strap with shoulder pad. The bag is 3 compartment with the first compartment having a passport/cellphone pocket and pen loops, 2nd compartment is a zipped laptop pocket and the third compartment is plain for pads, books etc. The gussets are in 3 pieces to give good fit and bend on the corners. Although I live in the Philippines and have done for 25 years, I am originally from England hence my natural preference for English style leather work. Stay safe everyone

Just recently finished and shipped this bag out to it's new owner to be used and enjoyed. Happy to hear any thoughts. It's W&C dark brown English bridle leather 8-9 ounce, gussets I split down on my old dixon splitter (I really want a bell skiver, it will be my next purchase) It's all hand cut and saddle stitched with dyed burnished and waxed edges, solid brass hardware from Buckleguy.com (love them), leather I ordered from the Hide House in Napa, their customer service is awesome and they're close to me so shipping is super fast. Solid copper rivets. Leather wrapped aluminum reinforcement bar under flap. Not in the pictures is a small luggage strap that goes from the top d-rings around a slide out carry on handle for traveling. 12 sets of handle hardware for briefcases/handbags. 4 pcs. per handle, 12 sets, 48 parts total. Made in Italy, new never used. Steel handle parts are designed to be wrapped with thin leather or fabric, these two halves are then force-fit together with the gold-finished handle attachments sandwiched between. Only the gold-finished end parts of the hardware will show when assembled. Finished up this bag used heavy Waxed Canvas 18 oz with 8 to 10 oz English Bridle. The leather on the bag is 5 to 6 oz. -

This is my take on a traditional dual strap satchel. I used Horween's Chromexcel, Bucanneer and Casco horse front. The bag is hand stitched with brass and copper rivets and the straps were sewn on my CB3200. It has a removable pouch that can fit small items or a small tablet.

So, I have done a few projects such as belts, wallets, dopp kits, and a duffle bag. I have settled on mine next major project and could use some guidance moving on to a more complex project (as I see it). I want to build a pilot bag like the one seen on Buffalo Jackson. https://buffalojackson.com/large-leather-briefcase-everett-pilot-bag-camel.html I believe that I can get the basic shape, the pockets, the handles, and the strap right. What I am not sure about how to complete is the inner pockets for the laptop and tablet, the pocket that is accessible from the outside (making a hidden pocket), adding loops for pens, and the lining without showing all of the edging. I also still debating the welting. I made a dopp kit that the interior looks terrible because I didn't do a very good job on the inner seams and I don't want to repeat this mistake. Any advice is appreciated as I would like to work out a solid plan before I start building this bag. It must be able to fit in the overhead of an airplane as I will be flying frequently. I am also uncertain as to what thickness of leather would be best...2/3, 4/5? I am still debating hand sewing this or using that most aggravating sewing machine I got from Tippman....leaning more towards hand sewing to reduce blood pressure and cussing. I am not so good at pattern making but will try to put together something decent to post to the group as I work through this project. Looking for a little group think on this project to make it as good as I can and any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, everyone! I just wanted to share the latest project. I just finished it this morning. I Promised my wife a while ago that I would make her a bag for her laptop, but she wanted something fancy to show off in her meetings, hence the black finish. I started looking around for design elements that would suit her tastes and started making the patterns. I was surprised at how quickly I finished this thing once I got past the coloring and treatment stage. I spent basically a couple weeks coloring and finishing the leather prior to even drawing the patterns on the side I bought because I wanted a uniform look around the bag. My process was: - black stain - neatsfoot oil - 2 layers of black dye - Kote - cleaning and buffing with Chamberlain's #1 I waited a full day between those steps and I loved the results. I used 0.8 mm red Tiger Thread (which is a delight to work with) I sturggled a bit with the burnishing and didn't quite get the shiny look I was after in the first place, but I changed my mind very quickly when I hit that matte look. Anyway, I'm very happy with the end result... it has definitely room for improvement, but I willtake care of those details when (if) I manage to sell one of these babies by way of my wife luggin' it around. Just finished this briefcase and thought I'd share. Purpleheart and aluminum handle with a cotton vintage cloth lining. I tried to keep this one crisp and clean with as little fuss as possible. It's a lovely balanced bag to hold. The handle pivots very freely on the bag so no matter how you hold or wear it , it always stays vertical. By swinging the handle towards the back it creates a clever stand for the briefcase. Comments and criticisms are welcome.

Is there a advantage to one type of briefcase bottom over another? I have enough leather to make the case I want with one piece for the front, bottom and back, sewing in only the sides, and having only 3 pieces of leather to deal with, this seems easiest; it seems most folks sew in a separate bottom and sides using, then, 5 pieces of leather. The only disadvantage I see could be wearing out the bottom - however, since it will be a laptop case I don't think it will spend much time on the bottom - mostly laid down on it's back. You know, typing this out has convinced me to use one piece for the main bag and sew in only the sides........................................ but I am going to wait and see if there is a good reason from you knowledgeable folks on why I should not do that. This is my latest bag. It's been about a year in the making as I had to put it aside for client orders. Finally took the time to finish the handles and put it all together. Fully turned briefcase with English suit wool accents. Entirely hand stitched as always. I made the handles out of solid brass and wrapped them with leather for comfort. One exterior pocket on the gusset for pens and such and one on the body for a phone or a pair of gloves. I had thought about building it with piping, but I'm glad I didn't on this one. I like that it's clean and understated. Comments and critiques welcome.

Just delivered this last week. Very happy customer. I make all of the handles and buckles myself from hardwood and brass. This one has an American walnut and maple handle, matching buckle on the bag and strap. It's completely lined in Italian mens suit wool and has removable three pocket insert so you can use the briefcase as an overnighter if you wanted. Completely hand stitched too. I'm always trying to improve my briefcases, and my leatherwork in general, so thoughts, criticisms and encouragements welcome.

Hi folks! It has been a while since I had the chance to fool around with leather. I finally made a briefcase (a first for me) out of veg tan. The leather used is 5oz thick and was dyed with tandy's pro waterstain for the black sections and the tan parts have been treated with olive oil and "saddle butter". The whole thing is stitched at 7spi with 532 linen thread. The edges are painted with fenice ebony edge paint. Hope you guys/gals like it! PS: sorry about the poor picture quality...

Hello dear friends! My name is Darek an i'm an autodidact leatherworker from Poland. I want to introduce You a briefcase I made one year ago. This briefcase is made from 2,8mm hand dyed, veg tan polish leather. The interior is lined with italian goat suede in racing green color. Hardware are solid brass made.
