Has anyone ever modified a manual turret punch to be used as a clicker for leather, rather than punching holes in steel? I can get a working turret punch cheap locally and was just wondering if anyone’s done this before? Pic attached

Very lightly used Weaver Master Tools 8 ton clicker. I used to run a really small scale leather business and purchased this early 2016 directly from Weaver. I had my son a couple of months after that and never ended up opening shop again so it has barely been used. It's in great condition, one side of the cutting board is completely new and the other has light use. Inspected and tested recently to make sure it still works like new. I have the original paper manual and the stickers that came with it. It is attached to a stand and there is a shelf for storage underneath. The clicker head measures 12" x 15" and the cutting surface is 12" x 24" so it handles pretty large dies. It's heavy duty and cuts with ease. Adjustment knob for 3/4" - 1 1/4" dies. Fits in 24"x 32" of floor space and holes in legs for bolting down. Hello all, There are a few good threads on here discussing the best way in which to run three phase machines on 220 single phase power. While there does seem to be some difference in opinion regarding RPC vs VFD's, I cant find a consensus on how to actually match the motors. I just picked up a 25 ton Herman Schwabe clicker running a 3 HP motor. Some folks seem to think it's best to match it with a RPC with a larger motor, like a 5hp, while others say a 3HP RPC is adequate. There's a pretty significant price difference between a 3HP and 5HP converter so I just wanted to see if any of you had a reason why one would be preferable to the other. Will I have significant power loss on a 3HP converter? Any risk of burning out the motor? I plan on using a Phase-a-Matic RPC if that helps. Many thanks for all of your advice.

I have a four ton clicker for sale. It is two years old and in next to new condition (see photos). When I bought it I wasn't sure it would do what I needed, but it has turned out to be very useful in my business. I use it for both clicking out leather and neoprene, and also embossing veg tan. Its worked out so well that I have purchased the larger 8 ton unit, mainly because the bed is quite a bit larger and I'll be able to do even more with it. Weaver sells these new for $1450. I"m asking $950 for mine. Local pick up only in Grass Valley, northern California. Has anybody seen Tandy's new clicker press? When I first heard it was coming and going for around $950 with business pricing, I was really excited. But after going out to see it last week, I'm really disappointed. I figured they just put their name on something that was already being made and we'd end up with one in the same style as the Weaver Mighty Wonder or Cowboy's manual press. But that's not what they did at all. As best I can tell, they must be having this thing made just for them. I was so disheartened I didn't even bother to take a picture, but they're rolling out into stores nationwide, so it should be on the website shortly. If you haven't seen it yet... it looks kind of like the Tippman and the Weaver merged into one. It looks like it's about the same size as the small Tippman and, like the Tippman, it has a fixed and relatively short opening height, but it's not pneumatic. It's got a lever like the Weaver, but it lacks the Weaver's ability to swing side to side (it's best feature in my opinion). If that's not bad enough, it actually has walls on either side (the whole thing looks like it's about 8 inches wide), which seriously limits what you could ever use it for. I'm shocked Tandy chose this route actually. If there's one thing I've learned hanging out in these forums, it's how thrifty and resourceful this crowd is. I don't think I could do anymore with this press than I could with my Harbor Freight Arbor Press, so why would I pay $900 more for it?

Hi all, I currently make leather bags by hand (up to 10oz thick) and am looking to buy some machinery to ease the strain on my joints - I've done some research but it's hard to find any UK sellers for most of the things suggested on this forum - I wondered if anyone could recommend any hand presses (for punching and rivet setting), hand clickers (for die cutting), and burnishing machines sold in the UK. Budget is pretty limited, hence the request for hand tools rather than hydraulic. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Danielle

So my needs are simple for now. I need a press to chop out smaller pieces from piles of post commercial leather waste. My pieces hardly ever exceed 6" in any direction, most being around the 2" x 4" size. What kind of tonnage am I looking at for punching through 12 oz. to 14 oz. latigo? What would be my cheapest and easiest options? I see refurbished 'clicker presses' on eBay and I'm not sure if building the whole setup from just a ram and a stand is a good route to follow or if a completed setup is. I possess the skills to put something like this together... It's just a lot of work when I should be leather working. Currently I use a double jack sledgehammer with the handle cut short and welded steel homemade dies. This can't continue... LOL

I'm seeking the advice of members who have experience of using strip knives/clicker dies for manufacturing small strap goods in the high dozens or low hundreds. I manufacture dog collars in a few standard sizes from two layers of waxed 2mm chrome-tan. At the moment my procedure is: Cut strips to final width using wooden strap cutter Mark all holes and lengths using a story stick and dividers Cut to length with knife and end punch Punch rivet and tongue holes using standard hole punches Skive turnback Glue Add buckle and rivet in place Machine stitch all round Add D-ring and rivet in place Punch buckle holes (The leather I use is through-dyed and the fibres quite tight so I don't edge finish in any way. Both I and my customers are happy with that.) With sales speeding up and trade enquiries coming in I'm looking at getting cutting dies made. The objectives are to reduce production time and eliminate errors caused by mismeasuring and operator error (strap cutter!). A further objective is to test the feasibility of this approach with a view to offering other products that cannot be made using a strap cutter and would be uneconomically slow to cut by hand. I've specced about a dozen dies before and been happy with all of them however I've never specced any that need very tight alignment between two different dies. My dilemma is this: can I reasonably expect the backer/lining die to cut a piece that matches perfectly with the top piece? This is in reference to outline and adjustment holes. If not I could spec the lining to be cut a little wider and longer than the top piece and trim the lining by hand once stitched together. Similarly, I could spec the die with adjustment holes only in the top piece and punch the holes through the lining manually. However both of these approaches still allow for operator error and will take some time, reducing the efficiency savings that using dies might bring. My main alternative plan is to spec some dies without cutting edges just punches in the relevant places. I will mount it into my fly press and use it to punch pre-cut strips held by an alignment jig. These dies will be long, involve several punch tubes, and I need to order them in several sizes so they represent a significant financial outlay. Any relevant advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hello all, I have been reading clicker die threads for about an hour or so and haven't seen this mentioned. I really do try to search before posting so here goes. I have a clicker press and have used dies to cut out various projects but I have not ever cut them from the flesh side. (I didn't have the need to before) I am wanting to have some more dies made and it would be much more affordable to have a single die made that I could simply flip the leather to get the other side cut out. Doe it work just as well cutting from the flesh side as it does the other way around or does it look different? IE: Distort the grain side or leave a lot of fuzzy bits? I have noticed when cutting from the grain side it leaves a very nice cut edge that slightly rounded over. It is beautiful and as close to perfect as I need but haven't paid a lot of attention to the flesh side when I have been cutting. I am trying to not have more dies made than I need and if they will cut just as well either way it would basically save me half by not having the mirror die made. If anyone has tried it both ways please let me know what you would recommend. On the outer edges they will be sanded and burnished so it's not as critical. On the edge of an inner flap or pocket it may or may not be burnished depending on the style I am shooting for. I appreciate any feedback you might be able to provide. Thanks in advance. Scott

I have a 20 ton Sandt 406 swing head hydraulic clicker press that just sits there, and I sit at my desk looking at it. Its getting old. I used to buy leather from Ohio, have it sent to Kentucky for clicking and then finally get to see it when it arrived in Wisconsin, but I eliminated the middle man a few years ago buying this paperweight from hell. Ok... say you want a new cutting die? Do you guys have one made or do you make it yourself or ? I have a large hydraulic press that was used to die cut foam board for years. I have some dies for it but they are all circles of different diameters. It has about 6" of open space and is 48" wide or so. Its a two post design. I'd like to use it to cut fabric, leather, heavy vinyl etc? Dave
