How is something like this done? In particular the two toned colours on the embossing, my guess is dye then emboss then use a flat roller to paint just the tops? Also where's the best place to get custom leather embossing rollers? I know about Sergey at Leather Stamp Tools. Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone, I hope you all are doing well. I have a KWIK Print model 86 hot foil stamping/embossing machine that I'm looking to part with. I wanted to offer it here first because, well, I just like the idea of it being put to use on leather more than I care to think about "Karen" from my kid's PTA using it to stamp out hair ribbons for some toddler beauty pageant or something. Feel free to call me biased if you'd like- you wouldn't be wrong. The machine is in great condition with nothing in regards to any flaws or damage to mention. Everything works as it should, and there won't be any negative surprises with it. I purchased the machine roughly 2-3 years ago for a large job that I was offered, and as happens to all of us at least once it seems, what was a guaranteed as a "sure thing," fell through no sooner than I bought the machine. Other than just here-and-there, it's just been taking up space in my workshop as I've transitioned more to woodworking as of late and nowadays seldom find myself working with hide very often at all. I wasn't quite ready to give up the idea of it being something I would eventually put to good use, but my wife is unexpectedly expecting our 3rd child in May (she vehemently swears it's mine but I'm not ready to give up hope just yet). We'll be moving to a larger soon, so things like this Kwik Print are having to find a new home, as well. The machine comes with the heating element, a separate heat controller, line finder, multi-line type holder, automatic foil feeder attachment, and an assortment of dies consisting of 3-6+/- of each letter of the alphabet and maybe some other odd and end dies such as punctuation and whatnot, I'm not entirely sure as I type this. All of these things are sold as "options" through the manufacturer, but without them, the machine is essentially useless. As far as I know, all of these "options" include everything that's available for these machines. New, the bare machine will run you right at $1800, and with the "add-on," it pushes the total price to $4000 give or take a few bucks. I purchased the machine secondhand for $1800. I'm not quite sure the exact figure right at this moment, but I can assure you that this thing weighs a pretty substantial amount. My guess is it weighs just a touch less than the burden my wife is putting on me to sell it. As a result, I'm unfortunately going to have to restrict shipping to the U.S. lower 48. If you live in Alaska or Hawaii and are interested in it, you'd probably be better off just buying a plane ticket and coming to grab it yourself. If you're that hellbent on it, I'd be more than happy to meet you at the airport haha. I'm located in central Mississippi and if a transaction is imminent, I could swing driving a couple of hours in any direction if it helped saved someone some time and a few bucks on the shipping. I'm asking $1000+ shipping. If shipping exceeds $300, then the machine + shipping is yours at $1300 total. If it's less than $300, you can keep the difference. I'll accept payment through PayPal or CashApp. If it'd make you more comfortable, I have no issues photographing myself with my I.D. or whatever other reasonable request that you may have in order to give you some assurance that I'm a legitimate person wanting to make a legitimate deal. However, with seller's fees being what they are, and the fact they take fees from the shipping costs, as well, the final price would have to be at $150 more than the previous mentioned final figure. In an attempt to save on shipping costs and protect the machine, I will be disassembling it for shipping, and will be shipping the cast iron parts in one package, and the heat controller, heating element, type holder, etc., in another. If you've ever successfully used the defrost setting on a microwave, reassembly won't be any issue for you. Hello, Just got a heat embosser and have been experimenting with different types of leathers and heat temps. I went a bit to hot and the heat plate just absorbed the aluminum foil paper and now I have all the residue left on the inner plate. Any idea how to remove this without sanding or using much abrasives? thanks for the help! Frank

Hi, I have recently started increasing my leatherworking and as such have been using different dyes and started really embossing leather. Previously I would only have used Eco-Flo gel Antique on embossed leather as it sits nice in the grooves and darkens them. However, having watched several how to videos I am now experimenting with using normal dyes (currently have a Fiebings Waterstain that I am using) and then using a finish to darken the groves of the embossed bits. In the video I watched they used Fiebings Antique Stain finish but I cannot seem to get the black version of that anywhere online for a decent price (I am in Dublin, Ireland). So instead I got Eco-Flo gel antique black as from what I can tell they do the same thing. Here comes my problem, I tried it out on a small piece of leather that I stamped a little, Dyed it green with the waterstain and then applied the gel after it dried and tried to wipe the excess off straight away but it didn't really come off and just left a black smear over the green. I applied it with a dense sponge and wiped it off with a kitchen towel wrapped around a sponge. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a difference between the two antiques and should I keep looking for the fiebings one? Hopefully somebody can help as I really want to start using more colours but the whole idea of embossing is to get that nice dark vs light effect. Cheers, Jelle

What heat embosser/foil stamp machines do you like. Truthfully, I'm mostly looking for heat embossing, not foil, but most of them offer both. I've found the most info about the Dream Factory stamping machine and all reviews seem great, but they are pricey. The one criticism I find is the lack of instructions in multiple languages, but other than that, people seem to love it and it's constructed well. I know Tandy has a heat imprinter, but have not heard of anyone who either loves or hates it. There's a ton of knockoffs from China on Amazon and Etsy for more in the $400 or less range, but it's hard to know if any of these are quality. I'm mostly stamping a logo, and sometimes initials or text in veg tan. Recommendations welcome! Thanks!

I'm about to finalise an alphabet stamp set order with Hex n Hit stamps and want to make sure they are suitable for use with my Kwikprint machine (I have a model #55). Having a little difficulty getting clarification from the stamp maker, probably due to language barrier. If anyone knows or has used these stamps, will be much appreciated if you can comment. Greetings from Nor'Easter region, It's been close to a decade since I did any projects but after getting a Single Action Army and a new skinning blade blank I've gotta dust off the cobwebs and see what I remember. I started on a Tandy beginners box set that was probably made for teens but after a few projects on some oak shoulders and scraps from a friend I started getting into it. Past projects where coin purses, messenger style bags, sheaths and a few whips, the stand out ones where the 8ft bull whip and the cat o' nine tails. Recently I acquired a SAA revolver and the holster I plan to make will probably be worth more than the gun itself, no offense H&R, she's a fun little .22 and I like her. I also found some new knife blanks that may or may not be the greatest but I've only had them a few days and they feel nice and they need a proper dressing. I've been a carpenter/woodworker my whole life so I have the handle ideas down but I will have questions on ideas for sheathing styles and patterns. Suppose since I will have enough veg tan left after the SAA holster I should make one for my 9mm but I may put that on hold while I try a run at a Tombstone replica rig for the single action. Heard rumor Doc carried double action revolvers in real life so I might not match the guns but I will try his suspender style rig, looks a little awkward but probably functions well, I do prefer a cross draw. I will post a picture of my first project because it's really how I started years ago, Tandy precut and all, also I will post the the two new items that need some new clothes. I will be asking a few questions here and there if I don't find them in the forum search. I think tonight I'm just gonna skim the forums and work on my Dubbin mix. Found some local beeswax from the same guy that sold me our Christmas tree and gonna put it to some use.
