Hi Everyone I have enjoyed viewing the topics on this site for sometime, but once I turned creating leather goods from a hobby into a business, I knew it was time to join. I may at some point have a tip or two to help others, or need a few myself. My business is J. Scott Handcrafted. I am located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. A coastal town. I create watch bands, slim card holders and am beginning patters for shaving kits, mouse pads etc. I prefer to work from scratch or make a pattern for the work at hand. Next creation I start again with a fresh pattern. This is slower than using templates etc., but suits me at least for now. It also allows me to make small changes and keep the process of creating fresh, rather than same each time. My main leather is Kangaroo, which is quite popular here. I only sell within Australia, due to the issues of exporting Kangaroo leather (forms, permits etc.). Here is my site handmade leather goods Here are a few pics of the watch bands done recently. One is Australian Barramundi, One is Cane Toad, shrunken grain Sheep, which is my favourite. And last is snake. All four have Kangaroo under- lining.

Hello, I am new here and as a "business card, I wanted to share my most complex work, it's a mask but there are a few techniques and materials that you might not know about, also some kinda complicated molding and I made a full video for how it is built. I hope you will enjoy it.

Finished up this little long wallet for a customer over the weekend. Outside is MPG Apollo in Bourbon color and the inside is natural veg tan from La perla azzura...hands down the nicest veg tan I’ve come across !! I used 0.45 mm twist brand waxed linen thread in coffee color spaced at 3.38mm for the stitching and finished the edges with a light brown dye (sanded with 200/600/1000/2000 grit) then dyed, burnished with tokonole and finished with some wax and buffed with canvas. delivery to customer is in 2 days and I’m thinking about sanding and re-dying the edge to see if I can get a more uniform color because in some places it’s lighter/darker than others. Finished this customer project this weekend. Tried something different and went with dye for the edges instead of the Uniters/Fenice paint I usually use. I’m a pretty happy with the results just wish I could have got some better pictures. Wallet is fully lined 0.6mm burgundy buttero hand stitched with 0.45mm black waxed linen thread spaced at 3.38mm edges are finished and angelus jet black alcohol dye. From the raw edge I planed first to square everything up then sanded with 200/600/1000/2000 grit sandpaper burnishing with tokenole in between grits to keep the fibres down then dyed and burnished once more then a light coat of wax was applied. I feel like my edges could have came out better but I think for my first attempt it was a success. comments and critiques always welcome

So, this is the fifth pair of boots I am making. The previous four pairs were an evolution of engineer boots and so I decided to make some harness boots this time. They are ready for the midsole, soles, and heels!

Here’s one of my latest orders. Client wanted a pink coffin shaped card holder with a pocket in the middle. I threw in the keychain as a gift. Leather is La Perla Azzurra Dakota in Barbie color from district leather supply. Saddle stitched with .55 waxed carriage natural hemp thread. Edges are finished with uniters heatable edge paint. thanks for looking

Here’s a last minute Christmas gift that was sent out. Wallet is constructed of 3oz black buttero with black 0.45mm waxed linen thread spaced at 3.38mm and black Uniters edge paint... I got this side of leather on sale from Rocky Mountain so I wasn’t able to have it split.. I usually prefer 1.0/1.5oz leather to keep the bulk down but I did a lot of skiving where I could to keep this project as thin as possible. Questions comment and critiques always welcome. Back with another wallet. I really like the way this one came out. The mpg Aragona has a beautiful pull up when flexed. I did apply a layer of Aussie leather conditioner to it and it turned the leather darker than I would have liked but I think it still looks great and feels nice in the hand. This one is black buttero for the outside wall and inner money pocket with mpg aragona in charcoal for the inside. Hand sewn with 0.45mm black waxed linen thread spaced at 5mm. First off let me state that this was my first attempt at making a bag of this sort I usually make wallets lol Anyways I was asked by a customer to make a bag large enough for study material/books and some clothing items. My original idea was to make a tote with handles but along the way ended up deciding to make it a shoulder carry with a flap closure in case of unfavorable weather. So I basically Bit off more than I could chew and didnt manage my time well enough and ended up pulling an all-nighter to deliver on the deadline. Great learning experience and I realized I really like making bags. comments, critiques and questions always welcome. Thanks for looking !!

Been a while since I posted any of my works.. Here is a wallet and keychain I've made for myself it was time to retire my prototype wallet made out of chestnut buttero. New wallet is EPI leather in navy color for the outside and inside is Alran sully in marine color. Stitching is black waxed linen thread at 3.38mm spacing done with French style pricking irons. Edges are sanded then burnished and sanded again with 3/4 coats or vernis edge paint in marine color. thanks for looking !!

So the title may be a little misleading.. This is actually my 5th wallet but this is the first time I’ve ever posted my work on the site. I got into the craft about 1 year ago and found this site shortly after and have been trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I absolutely love working with leather and I try to make things as often as possible. Which isn’t as often as I’d like seeing as how I’ve made roughly 5 wallets and 3 card Holders and a couple key chains since I started As for my wallet it is made out of 2oz lollipop red horween chromexcel that I scored when Rocky Mountain had there sale a while back. It’s stitched with carriage natural hemp thread from Tandy and edge painted with vernis burgundy color.. I used French style pricking irons from wuta 3.38mm or 8 spi. I’m really looking for some critiques to see where I can improve. I mean I can see the flaws but I’m curious how it looks to other makers ( my wife just says “ohh that’s pretty or nice” ) Sooo not much help in that department. Anyways I’m really excited to hear what you all have to say. Thanks for looking! Castle -

Leader of my own company creating hand made leather helmet fronts for fire helmets. Out of Pennsylvania I receive calls all over the USA from firefighters wanting my product. I love doing this passion and there is nothing else in this world I'd rather do. Some shields are more challenging then others making it the perfect blend of different challenges. Thank you for membership, for I'm sure I may have unsuccessful challenges I might need help with in the future.

This my first project of handmade and fully handstitched bridle leather bag . It took me almost couple of months to make patterns on auto cad and printing them to make all the parts . Even shoulder strap is also hand stitched. Please let me know what you think !!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Alta Andina crafts handmade mutli-use rolls. They are for sale on our website: https://altaandina.com/products/ Our tool roll can be used for almost anything. Fits a 12 inch wrench. Each slot can be sized as big or small as needed. Great for woodworking sets, chisel sets, bonsai sets etc. Also works great for paint brushes or art supplies. Our art rolls can also be used for pens and pencils, brushes, etc. We haven't played with putting tools in our art rolls yet, but we'd love to see how you use them! We do all our work by hand. Hand stitching, hand hammered copper rivets, hand burnished with beeswax. All full grain, vegetable tanned leather (quebracho, mimosa blend). -
Hi All - New to the forums and wanted some feedback on my companies' leather craft. All our products are handmade. Hand stitched, hand burnished, we hammer in our copper rivets by hand. We use only full grain, vegetable tanned leather (quebracho, mimosa blend). We'd love some feedback, especially on our rolls - see attached photos. They are really functional, but we're looking for suggestions, features to add, or general improvements to the design. Any suggestions for how you'd use them? Features you would like to see ideally? Each slot of the center strap tool roll with the wrenches adjusts so you can put various items inside. Hi All, just wanted to post something. Have been lurking around for the last couple of months. Still very new to leather craft. Im about 2 months in. Here is one of my most recent collars. It was an experiment and its not too bad. The dye work is a bit poor on the coloured parts, especially the black marks ?(I have since got hold of some leather paint instead of using dye), so hopefully the next ones will be cleaner. Hand aged hardware, rabbit fur accent and padded. All hand stitched. As a total beginner I'm pretty happy with it. -

I built these wedge sandals in collaboration with a talented leather worker. I sent the "template" over that I had drawn up, he tooled the pieces to my specs and sent them to me individually just as flat pieces....I took it from there and built these from the ground up...I added the leather turquoise inlays on the wedge portion, attached all leather to build the shoe as well as all embellishments which include brass studs, buckles, custom conchos, hand cut venice lace, etc...There are a lot of versions of tooled soes out there now a days, yet I have still had about 100 people reach out to me to make them a pair. I am still learning to tool leather and am not near ready enough to do justice to a project like this for a anyone and am looking for a leather worker to collaborate with to make several pairs of these...I also have made several pairs of wedding and party shoes which I have included pictures of with full glitter heels and soles... This is my second time making this king of long wallet. Still not perfect though. Not yet finished on burnishing edges, or should I say try to burnish. I used chrome tanned in this one, pull side leather on the body and coins slot and nappa on the card holder and hinges, because from where I live at, it is difficult to find shop to make my leather thinner. So I had to buy thinner leather. I've been in leather industry for one year or so, just making small leather goods. Still not good enough to level up and make bags and stuff, but it has been always a dream to try it out.

Hey all, I wanted to provide an update for the leather tool bag work that I am doing. A number of you have provide much appreciated feedback and advise, for which I am quite grateful and indebted.
